Local Presbyterian church to gather

The Cumberland Presbyterian Church will begin Sunday evening services at the former Christ's Mission church on Fourth Avenue at Gordon Drive Southeast.

The Rev. Don H. Thomas of Hickory Grove Cumberland Presbyterian Church will lead 6 p.m. services.

Vintage Faith Church also continues to meet in the building. Comunidad Christiana Casa de Oracion that formerly met there has relocated to the old First Christian Church, 400 E. Moulton St., after buying it from Central Baptist Church.

SoulStock is May 5 at Athens State

Planners of this year's SoulStock Christian music festival expect 15,000 people to fill Beasley Field at Athens State University to hear Barlow Girl, Sanctus Real and other performers and speaker Scott Dawson.

Philip Presley described SoulStock as positive, family-friendly and free.

SoulStock will be May 5, 2 to 10 p.m. Food vendors will be on site. Concertgoers should bring lawn chairs or blankets.

SoulStock shows people Jesus in a non-threatening environment and demonstrates unity as churches from 10 different denominations and many businesses join to give support, Presley said.

Also performing will be Matt Papa, Zachary Kale and Unchained.

Trinity Broadcast Network at Calvary

Calvary Assembly of God Church will have a second service recorded for showing on Trinity Broadcast Network. The service will be Sunday at 6 p.m. Rich Wilkerson, Damon Thomas and Danny Duvall are scheduled to speak. Kirk Sullivan of 4Him will be the musical guest.

TBN has not released the date for showing an earlier Calvary service it taped, said church officials.
