Recognized by seminary: Lawrence County native Zach Terry was presented the Westminster John Knox Press Award from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky. The award is presented to a student from each department of the seminary. The preaching department chose Terry based on excellence in the study of preaching, said school officials.

Terry is senior pastor of Lancaster Baptist Church and the son of Carl and Teresa Terry. He and his wife, Julie, have two children.

Volunteered: Youths from La Casa del Pueblo de Dios spent their spring break helping residents near Abbeville, where homes along Lake Eufaula were destroyed or damaged by a tornado.

The group removed branches and other debris from yards of elderly residents. Youths were Lorene Santa Maria, Lorene Meneses, Liliana Mandujano and Eduardo Salgado. The Rev. Aida Lea Barrera-Segura was their leader.
