Seminary classes start Aug. 16

The Athens extension of New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary will offer two classes on Thursdays, Aug. 16 through Oct. 4. “Developing Leaders,” taught by the Rev. Edwin Jenkins, will be at 6 p.m. and “Introduction to Old Testament Study,” taught by the Rev. Mike Rester, will be at 8 p.m. Classes meet at Athens First Baptist Church.

Courses also will be offered Oct. 11 through Dec. 6.

Students may earn certificates in Christian education or pastoral ministries. Students may apply for seminary enrollment on the first night by completing a $25 application fee. For more information, go to www.fbcathens.org and click on the NOBTS link or call David Cofield at 247-6336.

Willimon to speak on justice issues

Bishop Will Willimon will speak in Huntsville on “The Intersection of Faith and Justice” for a workshop at First United Methodist Church, July 15, 3 to 5 p.m. Willimon is leader of the United Methodist North Alabama Conference. The meeting is free. A $10 supper will follow. Reservations must be made by Monday by calling 536-9451.
