Church to dedicate ‘Outback’ Sunday

Central Park Baptist Church has dubbed a facility it bought and remodeled “The Outback” and will dedicate it Sunday at 10:30 a.m. Open house at the building behind Central Park will be at 10 a.m. The former Presbyterian church is at 2002 Westmeade St. S.W. Central Park’s other buildings are on Beltline Road Southwest at Westmeade.

Another church leased the building in recent years.

The Rev. Craig Carlisle, Central Park’s pastor, said The Outback will be used mainly by youths and senior adults.

Children’s home donations up

The United Methodist Children’s Home of Alabama and West Florida reported that donations from April 2006 to March 2007 were a record high. Among top giving churches in the North Alabama Conference was Central United Methodist in Decatur. Wesley Memorial United Methodist, also in Decatur, was among top donors in per-member giving. The home served 1,093 children last year through several campuses and programs.
