Cedar Plains making history

Cedar Plains Christian Church, Massey, got an official Alabama Historical Association marker recognizing it as the first congregation in Alabama of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).

Pernie Morris was among those present for the unveiling Oct. 14. Cedar Plains was founded in 1837. The first building was an 1849 log cabin, replaced by frame church in 1884.

A tornado destroyed the building in 1955, but the congregation rebuilt the next year. The church dedicated a time capsule to be opened in 2037.
