Rev. Edwin Jenkins

Remember God has big plans for you

All of us encounter difficulties during our journeys through life. Sometimes the obstacles are large and sometimes the problems are small.

Nonetheless, challenges come. It is even possible for us to feel so deeply burdened that we wonder whether we can continue.

Permit me to offer a few suggestions from a fellow struggler, which may be helpful the next time you face “the wall.” Consider the following thoughts before you throw in the towel.

Be reminded that God has big plans for you. Ah, come on, Edwin, big plans, what are you talking about? I am absolutely sure about it. God has big plans for you. The Bible is quite clear about that.

Undeniable evidence verifies your personal value. Do you doubt your worth? You shouldn’t. Just for starters, look at your hand. It is an amazing, astounding instrument. Look at what your hand can do. Examine the remarkable usefulness of the appendage located conveniently at the end of your arm. Turn it over and over. Think of all it has done and can do. I told you it was amazing.

How much is your hand worth? A thousand dollars, perhaps two or three or four. Wouldn’t the word “priceless” be an appropriate value to place on that phenomenal tool? “So what?” you may ask. What does my hand have to do with issues I face in life?

Look at your whole body. Look past what you often consider to be imperfections such as being too fat or too thin or too tall or too short or any of the other “toos” that you may be considering. You are fearfully and wonderfully made. You are a unique, unrepeatable miracle of God. And so far we are simply discussing the physical part of you.

Fellow pilgrim, be aware that there is more, so much more. You are not only a body; you are a spiritual being. And you also have a mind with which you can think and reason and dream.

All in all, while you may face many challenges and sometimes the difficulties seem to be overwhelming, you have some astounding possessions in and on you as a person.

Problems are inevitable. You encountered some yesterday, you probably have faced one or more today. You will potentially face a dilemma tomorrow. Sounds rather depressing, doesn’t it? You need not despair.

Why not? Recall our earlier reminder. God has big plans for you. In spite of anything that may happen, large or small, catastrophic or simple, you are special — very special. God who made you is available to care for you and to keep you. No matter what comes your way, he is only a prayer away.

Too simple? Maybe. But it’s worth a try. So what are you waiting for?
