Lady Bears clinch track championship; Falkville boys, girls, Hubbard boys are 2nd

One area team scored a state track and field championship Saturday, while three others managed second-place finishes.
Class 1A: Hazlewood High's girls track and field team won a state title for the 13th time in 14 years in Tuscaloosa.
The Lady Golden Bears scored 158 points in the Class 1A meet, which was well ahead of second-place American Christian's 71. Addison was third, while R.A. Hubbard placed eighth.
In addition, the R.A. Hubbard placed second in the boys division to Alabama School for the Deaf.
Hazlewood was fourth and Addison eighth.
Class 2A: Falkville High's boys and girls track and field teams both finished second. Both squads finished behind Altamont.
In the girls division, Priceville placed fourth, while Tanner was 11th. In the boys competition, Priceville finished 11th, Tanner 12th and Clements 23rd.
Class 3A: West Morgan's girls tied for 20th. In the boys division, Danville was 15th, while West Morgan was 28th and Elkmont 29th.
Class 4A: East Lawrence was 12th in the boys meet and 16th in girls. The Lawrence County girls finished 10th.
Class 5A: Brewer was 12th in the boys division and 28th in girls.
Class 6A: Austin's girls placed 10th, while Decatur was 24th. The Austin boys were 27th.
Class 6A: Austin High got a big lift from Jennifer Dunn, who won the 3,200-meter run and placed third in the 1,600 meters.
Class 5A: Brewer's Markus Greenleaf placed second in the 100 meters and 200 meters, finishing behind Homewood's Laderius Woods both times.
Class 4A: East Lawrence's Dakota Matthews recorded two third-place finishes, including one in the 300-meter hurdles and one in the 100-meter hurdles.
Lakendra Wright scored two third-place finishes for the East Lawrence girls. She was No. 3 in both the 100 and 200 meters.
The Lawrence County girls won the 3,200-meter relay, and Jessie Burch was third in the 1,600 meters.
Class 3A: Danville's Patrick Pinchon won the boys shot put.
Class 2A: Falkville's girls scored big in the relays, finishing second in the 3,200-meter relay and the 1,600-meter relay and third in the 400-meter relay.
In addition, Krystal Gibbs won the 800-meter run and finished third in the 1,600 meters. Teammate Angela Harrison was third in the 3,200 meters. Lauren Estes ran second in the 300-meter hurdles.
Priceville walked away with three championships: Kristy Barker in the long jump and javelin, and Kathryn Kirby in the discus. Kirby also was third in the javelin.
Tanner's Shaquitta Bell was third in the 100 meters and the 200. Whitley Mayberry was second in the 200.
In the boys division, Falkville's Shane Edge was second in the 800 and third in the 400. Teammate Justin Blanchard contributed two third-place finishes in the 1,600 and 3,200.
In the relays, Falkville was second in the 3,200 meters and first in the 1,600 meters. Tanner placed third in the 400 meters.
Falkville's Cody Sewell placed second in the high jump, while teammate Josh Henderson was second in the pole vault.
Priceville got a first-place finish from Brad Helton in the shot put and a second-place finish from Justin Lawson.
Class 1A: Hazlewood garnered six first-place finishes, four seconds and three thirds.
Jasmine Patton won the 100 meters and 100-meter hurdles. She placed second in the 300-meter hurdles.
Nolinda Garner won the 400 meters and 300-meter hurdles and was second in the 100-meter hurdles.
Amber Jones won the 1,600 meters and was second in the 400.
Pornesha Bynum third in the 200 meters, while Chasitey garner was third in the 400. Karen Reedus placed third in the 300-meter hurdles.
Hazlewood placed second in the 400-meter relay and first in the 1,600 relay.
R.A. Hubbard's Catedria King won the girls long jump.
In the boys division, R.A. Hubbard's Rodney Draper won the 200 meters and 300-meter hurdles. Michael Ricks won the 110 hurdles, was second in the 300 hurdles and placed third in the 200 meters.
Teammate Akeem Koger placed third in the 110-meter hurdles.
Hazlewood won the 400-meter relay, and R.A. Hubbard was second in the 3,200 relay.
In the triple jump, Hazlewood's Demetirius Garner won, followed by R.A. Hubbard's Pierre Stover.
Addison's Matt Naylor won the discus.
Softball Class 2A, Area 14
Priceville High's softball team won the area championship Saturday with a 3-2 title-game victory over Westminster Christian.
The victory moves Priceville into the sub-state round, which will be Tuesday. Priceville will face the Area 13 runner-up in a best-of-three series.
Priceville's Caitlin Williams earned most valuable player honors in the area tournament, while Emily Childers, Jessica Hopper and Jessica Kennedy made the all-tournament squad.
Priceville 3, Westminster Christian 2: Williams pounded out a double, a triple, a home run and two RBIs for the Lady Bulldogs.
Hopper added a double and a triple, while Stephanie Hardiman had two singles and an RBI. Ashten Houser singled twice.
Lauren Bowen got the pitching win by striking out five and allowing three hits.
Priceville 8, Westminster Christian 2: In an earlier game, Sumer Boyd had a single, a double, a triple and two RBIs for Priceville.
Tiffany Bracken contributed two singles and two RBIs. Williams added a single, a double and an RBI, while Hardiman singled twice. Tiffany Bracken singled twice and drove in two runs. Emily Childers had a single and two RBIs.
Pitcher Casey Chandler pitched a one-hitter to pick up one of her three victories in the tournament.
Priceville 18, Falkville 2: Bracken gave the Lady Bulldogs a lift with three singles, a triple and an RBI.
Childers added two singles and three RBIs. Hopper contributed a single, a double, a triple and an RBI. Sara Parker hammered a single, a double and three RBIs. Boyd singled once and drove in two runs, while Jessica Kennedy had a single, a double and an RBI.
Chandler got the win with a three-hitter.
Priceville 5, Holly Pond 0: Williams doubled twice, while Parker singled and drove in two runs.
Childers had two singles, and Hopper and Kennedy each had a single and an RBI. Chandler allowed three hits and struck out three to get the win.
Class 3A, Area 15
West Morgan 4, Madison Academy 0: Allison Scogin picked up her 1,000th career strikeout in the West Morgan win.
Scogin went seven innings and gave up two hits while striking out eight.
For the Lady Rebels, Kristin Tipler was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, and Alison Reagin was 2-for-2 with two RBIs.
West Morgan 2, Madison Academy 1, 9 innings: Lauryn Kilgo scored the winning run in the bottom of the ninth when her base hit went through the center fielder's legs, giving her enough time to round the bases.
Kilgo was 2-for-4 in the game.
Scogin picked the win for West Morgan (32-25), going nine innings, giving up two hits and striking out nine.
West Morgan moves to the sub-state round by virtue of winning its area.
Class 4A, Area 15
Ardmore 4, East Lawrence 3, 11 innings: In the championship game, Casey Steadman got the pitching win by hurling all 11 innings. She struck out eight and allowed six hits.
Morgan White had a single and a home run for Ardmore, while Brittany Norton had a double for East Lawrence.
