West Morgan boys record 4th straight win
From Staff Reports
Micah Randolph and Andrew Elliott led West Morgan High's boys basketball team to its fourth straight win, defeating Danville 56-39 on Thursday night.
Randolph scored a game-high 16 points, and Elliott pitched in 13.
"It was a pretty close game, and in the third quarter, we pulled away," West Morgan head coach Ricky Bowling said. "The last time, we had them by 17 and they cut it down and we ended up winning by two. At least we finished tonight."
The key to the game was West Morgan's second-half defense, which limited Danville to 18 points, Bowling said. That's the same factor he credits for helping push the win streak to four games.
"I feel like we're playing good defense and that helped us as much as anything," Bowling said.
Zack Orr led Danville with 11 points, and Chris Vest added 10.
Now West Morgan will test its improvement against Madison Academy, the No. 2 team in Class 3A, on Saturday at 7 p.m.
"There is not many teams in the state regardless of classification that are as good as they are," Bowling said. "They put a pretty good whipping on us the first time."
The Rebels will go into the game with a smaller lineup than Madison Academy, which has a starting lineup that includes 6-foot-11 sophomore Bawa Muniru and 6-4 senior guards Tyler Hanback and James Dogette.
"Their 7-footer, we have to bottle him up and try to contain the tempo," Bowling said. "We've got to limit them to one shot." Addison 52, Brilliant 43: Matt Naylor had 15 points, 19 rebounds and six blocked shots to pace Addison, which improved to 15-0 and 7-0 in Class 1A, Area 13.
Mark Stewart added 10 points and 12 rebounds. Kyle Carden pitched in 10 points.
All seven players who played recorded at least one steal, paced by Adam Denson, who had two.
Mark Fisher passed out four assists, and Fisher, Denson and Wes Willingham each pulled down six rebounds. Good Hope 58, Falkville 46: Heath Alford scored 12 points and picked up eight rebounds as Falkville fell to 12-7 on the season. Thomas Holt added 15 points for the Blue Devils, which had seven players score.
Bradley Whitlock led Good Hope with 13 while Alex Richter added 11.
Girls Addison 46, Brilliant 27: Jessy Willingham led No. 7 Addison with 10 points as the Lady Bulldogs improved to 14-1. Eight players in all scored for Addison, which led 23-9 at halftime. Danville 51, West Morgan 44: Magen Linderman had 17 points and seven steals to lead Danville to the win.
