Six advance to district hoops

Forty-six youngsters participated in the Elks Local Hoop Shoot contest in Decatur on Jan. 14 at Cedar Ridge Middle School.

Age division winners were:

8-9

  • Luke Carter from Gordon-Bibb School shooting 18 of 25.
  • Andrea Carter from Danville-Neel School shooting 12 of 25.

    10-11

  • Nicholas Beach from Barkley Bridge School shooting 15 of 25.
  • Sloan Lindsey from Danville-Neel School shooting 14 of 25.

    12-13

  • Demond Phillips from Cedar Ridge School shooting 18 of 25.
  • Kelsey Winton from Hartselle School shooting 17 of 25 and then in a tie-breaker shot 11 of 15

    The winners will compete in the North District Hoop Shoot competition Feb. 4 at Cedar Ridge Middle School in Decatur.

    Twisters finish
    second in Anniston

    The Level 8 gymnasts of the Calvin Twisters brought home second-place honors from the Winter Blast Invitational in Anniston on Jan. 14.

    The Twisters results:

    Level 8

    Age 15-and-up

  • Kala Lane: fourth in all-around, beam and bars; fifth on vault and floor.

    Age 13-14

  • Kate Hughes: third in all-around; first on beam; second on bars; seventh on vault and floor.
  • Courtney Smith: fourth in all-around, bars and vault; third on beam and floor.

    Age 11-12

  • Alyssa Pettus: fourth in all-around; third on beam; fifth on bars; sixth on vault; seventh on floor.
  • Alex Summers: third in all-around and beam; fourth on vault; fifth on floor; sixth on bars.
  • Sloan Godsey: seventh in all-around and bars; sixth on vault; fifth on beam; fourth on floor.

    Level 7

  • Kami Adamson: first in all-around and beam; second on vault and bars; third on floor.

    Level 6

  • Alexa Moates: first in all-around, vault, bars, beam and floor. Adult softball
    leagues meet

    Organizational meetings for the adult softball in the Decatur Parks and Recreation Department leagues are set for Feb. 6 and 7.

    On Feb. 6, the men's church league meeting will be at 6 p.m., men's industrial at 7 p.m., and men's independent at 8 p.m.

    On Feb. 7, the women's church meeting will be at 6 p.m., women's independent at 7 p.m., and co-ed league at 8 p.m.

    Baseball registration begins in February

    Times and places for Decatur Dixie Youth Baseball registration have been announced.

    For players in the American and Central League, registration will be at Austin High School on Feb. 4 (9 a.m. until noon) and Feb. 7 (6-8 p.m.).

    Also, the Central League will have registration Feb. 25 at the Central League field from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Registration for National League players will be at the T.C. Almon Recreation Center in Point Mallard Park on Feb. 6 and Feb. 13, with both meetings to begin at 5:15 p.m.

  • Winter meeting for managers: There will be winter meetings for Dixie Youth American League managers Jan. 30 at 7 p.m. at Decatur Utilities.

    Bowling news

    The winter league for the Decatur-Hartselle youth bowling competition is set to begin.

    The league is open for ages 5 to 21 and finishes by April.

    Competition will be at the River City Lanes in Decatur and Family Lanes in Hartselle on Saturday mornings.
