Auburn Best & Worst of Saturday

Best call of the day: Auburn needed two points to secure a seven-point lead late in the third quarter following Prechae Rodriguez’s 22-yard touchdown catch. Instead of running the ball, offensive coordinator Al Borges called for a halfback pass. Carl Stewart connected with a wide-open Lee Guess for a 22-15 lead.

Best way to redeem oneself: David Irons found himself on the wrong end of Alabama’s second touchdown when Nikita Stover burned him for a score. He redeemed himself with less than two minutes to play, when he intercepted John Parker Wilson to secure Auburn’s fifth straight win against the Tide.

Worst time to blitz: Auburn needed only a defensive stop on third-and-10 with about a minute remaining in the half to go into halftime with a 14-3 lead. Instead, Auburn defensive coordinator Will Muschamp sent an ill-advised blitz at the Tide, and John Parker Wilson completed a 52-yard touchdown pass to Hartselle native Nikita Stover.

Worst way to act after a loss: Listen up, people. It’s just a game. The sun will rise tomorrow, and Alabama will win another football game. There’s no reason to throw glass liquor bottles and full water bottles onto the field at Auburn players after the game. There’s no reason the Tigers’ David Irons should have been hit by a bottle on his way into the Auburn locker room.
