Hartselle High’s Reeves hits 1,000th point

Hartselle High’s Mary Virginia Reeves scored the 1,000th point of her varsity career Saturday night in the Lady Tigers’ 68-32 win over Muscle Shoals.

Reeves is a senior who has played four years on the Hartselle varsity. She entered Saturday’s game with 975 career points and managed 26 points against Muscle Shoals.

She also had a team-high 11 rebounds.

Jessica Andrews added 13 points and 10 assists, and Jessi Smith scored 10 points.

For Muscle Shoals, Kathryn Thompson scored 13 points.

Falkville 51, Vinemont 24: Aleshia Smith scored 13 points to lead the Lady Blue Devils (2-6).

Lauren Estes added 11 points, and Katie Annerton had 10.

Mountain Dew Shootout

Decatur Heritage’s girls basketball team split two games Saturday when the school hosted the Mountain Dew Shootout.

The Lady Eagles beat Phil Campbell 66-49 and fell to Brooks 46-36.

In other games, St. Bernard beat Phil Campbell 60-51, while Brooks beat Phil Campbell 65-46 and St. Bernard 59-40.

Decatur Heritage 66, Phil Campbell 49: Candace Lee turned in a sterling performance with 24 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals for Decatur Heritage.

Also for the Lady Eagles, Lou Ellen Thompson had 18 points, four assists and four steals. Brittany Denson added 16 points, five rebounds, five assists and four steals.

Ashley Holmes had eight points, eight rebounds and two steals.

Decatur Heritage built a 38-19 halftime lead and cruised from there.

Brooks 46, Decatur Heritage 36: The Lady Eagles fell behind 20-7 and couldn’t catch Brooks.

Thompson had 14 points, while Lee added 12 points, eight rebounds and a pair of assists. Denson and Lindsey Brown each had six rebounds, and Denson added four assists and three steals.

Boys

West Limestone 64, East Limestone 59: Zane Campbell paced the Wildcats over their Limestone rivals with 20 points and 12 rebounds.

Travis Jackson and Darrius Smith had 13 points. For East Limestone, Larry Williams had 18 points, while Jared Laxson added 13 and Dresden Williams 11.

Muscle Shoals 76, Hartselle 41: Luke Bole’s team-high 15 points weren’t enough to help Hartselle overcome Muscle Shoals’ 11 baskets from 3-point range. Alex Brown added nine points for the Tigers (8-6).

Bryant Starkey led Muscle Shoals with 15.

Falkville 72, Vinemont 61: Heath Alford had 24 points to pace the Blue Devils (6-5), while Adam Dye added 16 points.

Justin Blanchard had 13.
