Athens girls demolish Anniston

Fifth-ranked Athens High won its fifth straight game Tuesday when it beat Anniston 72-31 in the Northwest Alabama Christmas Tournament.

The tournament continues today at Lauderdale County when Athens (10-2) plays Florence.

The Lady Golden Eagles' only losses have come to second-ranked Hartselle.

Against Anniston, Keona Shoulders poured in 19 points to pace Athens, while Courtney Medlen added 14 points and 10 assists. LaCresha Horton had 13 points, and Jenea Strong pitched in 10.

Brittney Hovell paced the rebounding with 13, while Candace Bone added eight.

Taconya Allen led Anniston with 10 points.

Athens had faced Anniston, a Class 4A Final Four team in 2006, earlier this season with the Lady Golden Eagles taking a 71-46 win.

West Limestone girls 65, Rogers 61: The Lady Wildcats (4-9) won their opener in the Northwest Alabama Christmas Tournament after getting 15 points, seven rebounds and five assists from Natalie Harrison.

Elizabeth Dison had 17 points, and Heidi Taylor contributed 11 points, 11 rebounds and five assists.

Savannah Smith scored 13 points.

For Rogers, Lake White had 26 points.

West Limestone will play again today at 6 p.m. against Hazlewood.

Addison girls 60, Susan Moore 34: Jessy Willingham led
Addison in the Curry Christmas Tournament with 31 points, four rebounds and six assists.

Kayla Carden and Haley Wiggins each added 10 points.

The Lady Bulldogs will play again Thursday against either Dora or Hanceville.
