East Limestone High's boys basketball team edged Hartselle 61-58 on Wednesday to advance in the Big Blue Classic at Brewer High.
In addition, Brewer beat Columbia 71-50, while Guntersville beat Lawrence County 58-51. Russellville beat Baldwin County 65-62 in the late game.
In today's semifinals, East Limestone and Guntersville will play at 6 p.m., and Brewer will play Russellville at 7:30 p.m.
East Limestone boys 61, Hartselle 58: East Limestone won behind 19 points from Jared Laxson, while Larry Williams added 13 points.
For Hartselle, Jackson Holmes hit for 23 points. The Tigers will face Lawrence County today at 3 p.m. in a consolation game.
Brewer boys 71, Columbia 50: Alex Brown poured in 20 points for the host Patriots (6-8), who got points from nine different players.
Rusty Boyd added 19 points, and Kyle Bowling pitched in 10.
Guntersville boys 58, Lawrence County 51: Matthew Pugh had 14 points and four rebounds for the Red Devils (11-4) but they still fell to Guntersville.
Myles King added 12 points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals. Cody Harville pulled down eight rebounds, and Durman Cunningham had seven. Brent Dutton made four steals.
Athens girls 82, Florence 50: Keona Shoulders had 30 points and 13 rebounds as the fifth-ranked Lady Golden Eagles won their sixth straight.
LaCresha Horton added 21 points for Athens (11-2). Courtney Medlen handed out six assists, and Candace Bone had five.
Hazlewood girls 81, West Limestone 59: Amber Jones scored 36 points in Hazlewood's win, while Josalin Johnson added 21. Jasmin Patton had 14 points.
For West Limestone, Natalie Harrison produced 33 points, seven rebounds and two steals.
West Morgan girls 44, Mount Hope 23: The Lady Rebels got at least a point from 10 different players, and Mikala Etheredge led the way with seven points.
West Morgan will play again today at 5 p.m. against host Speake.
Hatton girls 44, Meek 32: Breanna Culver and Emily Shelton each had eight points for the Lady Hornets (8-5) in their win Wednesday.
Chloe Malone pulled down seven rebounds, while Shelton had five assists. Erin Shelton made five steals.
Falkville boys 62, Phillips 50: Heath Alford paced the Blue Devils (7-5) with 20 points and 12 rebounds.
Joseph Lacy provided Falkville with an ace from the outside.
He scored 18 points on 6-of-7 shooting from behind the 3-point arc.
West Union (Tenn.) boys 67, Priceville 54: The Bulldogs led 39-26 at halftime but couldn't make it stand up against West Union.
Josh Bedwell had 26 points and six rebounds for Priceville, while JaColby Reid added 12. K.C. Green pulled down nine rebounds.
When States Collide
Decatur Heritage boys 45, Huntland (Tenn.) 27: The Eagles' defense shut down Huntland, which sank only one of 17 shots from 3-point land.
Decatur Heritage (10-6) gave up only five points apiece in
the first, second and third quarters.
Brandon Little paced the Eagles with 12 points, three blocked shots and a pair of steals.
De'el Watkins had 11 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Brent Denson had eight points and eight rebounds.
