Tennessee doubles Alabama's women

KNOXVILLE — Candace Parker scored 15 points and No. 4 Tennessee cruised to a 72-36 win over Alabama on Wednesday night.

Tennessee (13-1) beat Alabama for the 31st straight game, and the Crimson Time fell to 2-38 all-time against the Lady Vols. It was the Southeastern Conference opener for both teams.

The Lady Vols looked uninspired in the first half despite leading by 20 early but came out with more intensity in the opening minutes of the second half when the lead ballooned to 30. Alabama could not keep pace. Tennessee can now focus all its attention on Saturday's game at No. 5 Connecticut in one of the premiere rivalries in women's college basketball.

Reserve Alberta Auguste added 11 points for Tennessee.

Parker had 10 points in the first half and was 7-of-14 from the floor. She didn't play much after halftime.

Talisha Chandler led Alabama with 14 points.

Tennessee has won seven in a row since losing at No. 2 North Carolina on Dec. 3. The wins include George Washington, Texas and Old Dominion.

Playing against one of the lower-tier teams in the SEC apparently didn't excite the Lady Vols much.
