The Daily’s all-area cross country teams

Boys runner of the year

Laurance Thompson, Decatur, Sr.:

Had a personal best of 16:33.00 at the Dew It on the Trails meet in October, earning the Morgan County championship title. Also won the Northwest Championship this season, placed fifth at the Chickasaw Trails meet and recorded the fastest time by a Tennessee Valley boys runner at the Jesse Owens Classic, finishing in 16:50.53. Placed 22nd individually in Class 5A at the state meet in 17:21.13 Selected The Daily’s boys runner of the year in 2006.

Tyler Alexander, Lawrence County, Sr.:

Placed 20th individually at the 3A-4A state meet, finishing in 17:55.35 and helping Lawrence County to a team runner-up finish. Made The Daily’s all-area cross country team last season.

Justin Blanchard, Falkville, Jr.:

Clocked in at 17:27.89 at the 1A-2A state meet, good for a sixth-place finish individually, while Falkville placed third as a team. Other top finish included third place at the Cold Springs Kudzu Hills Invitational. Named all-area last season and was selected all-county at the Dew It on the Trails meet this season.

Andy Davidson, Athens Bible, Jr.:

Placed eighth at the 1A-2A state meet, finishing in 17:32.36. Other top finish included second in 1A-3A at the Dew It on the Trails meet. Made honorable mention all-area last year.

Trevor Larson, Lawrence County, Sr.:

Came in 12th individually at the 3A-4A state meet, finishing in 17:31.29 as the Red Devils placed runner-up in the team standings. Made honorable mention all area last season.

Collins Montgomery, Lawrence County, Sr.:

Finished 19th individually at the 3A-4A state meet in 17:53.21 as Lawrence County finished runner-up as a team. Other top finish included third at the American Christian Academy Homecoming Invitational in Tuscaloosa. Made all-area honorable mention last year.

Zeke Nichols, Hatton, So.: Qualified for the state meet and placed 11th in 1A-2A in 17:54.14. Made honorable mention all-area last year.

Logan Underwood, Lawrence County, Jr.:

Lawrence County’s top finisher at the state meet, coming in fourth individually in 3A-4A in 17:09.50, pacing the Red Devils to a team runner-up finish. Other top finishes included garnering first place at the American Christian Academy Homecoming Invitational in Tuscaloosa and second place at the Tigers Classic in Auburn. Made all-area honorable mention last season.

Austin: Jeff Holm, Michael McLellan; Athens Bible: Seth Archer, Colby Phillips, Jonathan Pittman; Brewer: Nathan Hamilton; Clements: Sean Bachelor; Decatur: Samuel Hand, L.T. Fite; Decatur Heritage: Jacob Cook; Falkville: Evan Burgess, Shane Edge, Cory Hill, Jace Wilemon; Lawrence County: Jonathan Naylor, William McWhorter.

Girls runner of the year

Jennifer Dunn, Austin, Jr.:

Class 6A runner-up at the state meet, clocking in at 18:14.61 for her fourth straight Top 6 finish at the state cross country championships. In November, she set a girls course record at the Jesse Owens Classic, finishing in 17:54.33. Also won the Chickasaw Trails, Cold Springs Kudzu Hills Invitational and Dew It on the Trails meets this season, becoming Morgan County champion. In September she finished ninth against runners from across the nation the Nike Race of Champions in Hoover. Selected girls runner of the year in 2005 and ’06.

Meg Adams, Decatur, Jr.:

Clocked in at 19:54.71 at the state meet, placing 13th individually in Class 5A. Other top finishes included third place at the Class 5A, Section 4 meet and third at the Athens Bible School meet. Named all-Morgan County at the Dew It on the Trails meet. Selected to all-area team last season.

Sally Adams, Decatur, Fr.:

Lady Red Raiders top finisher at the state meet, came in seventh place individually in Class 5A in 19:31.72. Other top finishes included second place at the Class 5A, Section 4 meet and second at the Athens Bible School meet. Named all-Morgan County at the Dew It on the Trails meet. Selected all area last season.

Krystal Gibbs, Falkville, So.:

Came in sixth place individually in Class 1A-2A for Falkville, clocking in at 21:00.92. Made honorable mention all-area last season.

Audra Smith, Hatton, Fr.:

Came in fourth individually in Class 1A-2A for Hatton at the state meet, finishing in 20:35.59. Other top finishes included third in 1A-3A at the Dew It on the Trails meet. Made honorable mention all-area last season.

Ari Stephenson, Lawrence County, Fr.:

Came in third place individually in Class 3A-4A at the state meet with a time of 19:26.62, leading the Lady Red Devils to a runner-up finish as a team. Other top finishes included winning the American Christian Academy Homecoming Invitational in Tuscaloosa and third place in the Crimson Run. Made honorable mention all-area last season.

Lyndsie Warren, Lawrence County, 7th:

Recorded the second fastest time for a Lawrence County girl at the 3A-4A state meet, finished in ninth place individually in 20:50.66, helping the Lady Red Devils to a team runner-up finish.

Mary Elaine Williamson, Decatur, Sr.:

Finished in 12th place individually at the 5A state meet in 19:48.00. Other top finishes included a first place at the Athens Bible School meet and winning her division at the Class 5A, Section 4 meet. Named all-Morgan County at the Dew It on the Trails meet. Selected all-area last season.
