Tide reserve transfers to junior college
TUSCALOOSA (AP) — Alabama freshman Verice Cloyd has transferred to Chipola Junior College in search of more playing time.
Alabama admitted Cloyd in the summer, accepting his transcripts from Genesis One Christian Academy, one of 22 prep schools the NCAA cleared for initial academic eligibility in July.
He left the Crimson Tide last month because of lack of playing time, not academics, said John Price, Cloyd's coach at College Heights Academy in Nashville.
"I think the whole NCAA thing, whether it was intended to or not, did kind of hype him up a bit," Price
"Hype can be like a snowball. Alabama probably thought he was a little bit better and he didn't perform to a level where they could get him on the floor."
Cloyd totaled 20 minutes in three games, scoring a combined six points. He will be eligible for the 2007-08 season at the Marianna, Fla., junior college.
Alabama coaches told him he would have a difficult time finding minutes in future seasons, Price said.
