UAB keeps East Carolina winless in conference play

Wen Mukubu scored 15 points and Lawrence Kinnard added 14 to lift UAB past East Carolina 58-42 in Greenville, N.C., on Saturday.

Mukubu added seven assists and five rebounds while Kinnard had seven rebounds for UAB (11-9, 3-3 Conference USA), which shot 75 percent (9 of 12) from the foul line.

Courtney Captain scored 13 points and Darrell Jenkins had 10 points and eight assists for the Pirates (5-14, 0-6), who shot just 23.8 percent (5 of 21) from 3-point range.

UAB scored 18 points off 15 East Carolina turnovers and led 30-16 at the half.

UAB led by as many as 18 points with 2:11 left in the game. East Carolina’s largest lead was just one point with 18:13 left in the first half.

Prairie View 50, Alabama St. 47: Brian Ezeh scored 13 points, including three free throws in the final minute, to help Prairie View at home.

Dominique Sharpe’s field goal with 69 seconds left put the Panthers (3-17, 1-7 Southwest Athletic) up three. Ezeh helped keep his team’s lead safe by hitting two free throws with 34 seconds left. Eleven seconds later, he made 1-of-2 free throws.

Dustin Richmond scored 14 points to lead Alabama State (5-14, 3-5). Tremayne Moorer added 12 points and five rebounds. Richard Lott scored seven points and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.

Tenn.-Martin 83, Jacksonville St. 60: Cleve Woodfork scored 20 points and Tennessee-Martin shot a season-high 59.5 percent from the floor to win.

The Skyhawks (6-16, 4-8 Ohio Valley Conference) were 25-of-42 from the floor and shot 47 percent from beyond the arc.
