Murray State edges Samford

With 15 points and nine rebounds Shawn Witherspoon led Murray State to a 57-51 victory over Samford on Monday night.

Samford (12-10, 9-4 Ohio Valley Conference) led for the entire first half and was ahead 23-20 at the break.

Murray State (10-11, 8-5) pulled ahead with 8:36 left to play and kept the lead for the win.

Bruce Carter was the only other double-digit scorer for the Racers with 10 points. Dwayne Paul pitched in with 10 rebounds.

Prairie View 60, Alabama A&M 58: Dominique Sharpe scored 21 points to lead Prairie View to a 60-58 victory over Alabama A&M on Monday night.

Sharpe tied the game at 57-57 on a free throw with 5:40 left and Derek Johnson gave Prairie View (4-17, 2-7 Southwestern Athletic Conference) the lead for good with a basket with 4:11 left.

Alabama State 78, Texas Southern 61: Richard Lott scored 19 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to help lead Alabama State to a victory over Texas Southern.

Alabama State (6-14, 4-5 Southwestern Athletic Conference) started the game with a 6-0 run and never looked back. The Hornets led 30-23 at halftime and took their largest lead with a 23-point margin at 3:53 in the second half.

Andrew Hayles and Dustin Richmond added 15 points apiece for Alabama State and Deshawn Porchea scored 11.
