Samford scores 38
in loss to Colonels

Adam Leonard hit a 3-pointer with four minutes left and Eastern Kentucky hit five free throws in the final 37 seconds as the Colonels beat Samford 46-38 Tuesday night.
Leonard finished with 12 points for Eastern (16-9, 11-6 Ohio Valley Conference), and Michael Brock also scored 12. Mike Rose added 10.
Travis Peterson led Samford (14-12, 11-6) with 23 points, including the team’s first 11 points of the game.
Eastern won its sixth straight game, despite being held to its second lowest scoring total of the year and shooting just 38.6 percent from the field. Eastern lost to Ohio State 74-45 on Nov. 17.
Samford trailed 41-38 with 43 seconds left but could get no closer.
Jacksonville St. 57, Morehead St. 52: Nick Smith hit two free throws with four seconds left as Jacksonville State beat Morehead State.
Shaun Williams pulled Morehead State (10-15, 6-11 Ohio Valley Conference) to within two points at 54-52, hitting two free throws with 16 seconds left.
Harold Crow’s run-out dunk on the inbounds play for Jacksonville (8-18, 6-11) with 13 seconds to go gave the Gamecocks a 56-52 lead.
Morehead State had the ball but missed a 3-pointer, setting up Smith’s free throws.
Smith finished with 16 points for Jacksonville, Crow had 14 and Erik Adams 10.
Cordaryl Ballard scored 11 for Morehead State, and Shaun Williams had 10 points and 13 rebounds.
The Eagles lost their ninth straight, shooting 21-of-61 (34.4 percent) from the field, including 0-of-17 from 3-point range.
The Gamecocks were 20-of-48 (41.7 percent) and 5-of-19 on 3-pointers.
