Madison Academy captures 2nd straight crown

Kerron Johnson had 19 points in Madison Academyís 72-69 win over Lauderdale County on Saturday, giving his team its second straight Class 3A state championship and third overall.

Lauderdale County (30-4) was led by Ethan Wallen with 18 points.

The Mustangs (30-6) had four players scoring in double figures, as did Lauderdale County.

Class 3A girls finals

Sheffield 64, Pisgah 55: Jasmine Horne had 21 points and Zenaunnie Campbell added 19 to lead Sheffield. It was the first state title for Sheffield (24-11).

Class 5A boys finals

Williamson 58, John Carroll 50: Mykel Cleveland had 17 points and Darryl Blackmon and Reginald Carson each had 12 as Williamson defeated John Carroll to take home the teamís first Class 5A boys championship title.

John Carroll (31-5) was led by Andrew Steele with 16 points and Ryan Fitch scored 12. John Carroll defeated Decatur 45-43 to advance to the finals.

Class 5A girls finals

Ramsay 38, Arab 31: Katherine Graham had 17 points and Kaneisha Horn added 11 to lead Ramsay in the Class 5A girls championship Saturday.

It was the fourth consecutive state title for Ramsay (33-2).

Alli Smalley had 15 points to lead Arab (32-4). Ramsay advanced to the finals eliminating Hartselle 44-31.

Class 6A boys finals

LeFlore 64, Jeff Davis 61: Joshua Wesley had 22 points in LeFloreís 64-61 victory Saturday over Jeff Davis in the Class 6A boys championship.

The win was the fourth title for LeFlore (31-3) and the Mobile teamís first since 2002.

Jeff Davis (28-5) was led by Courtney Fortson with 25 points. Jeff Davis of Montgomery defeated Austin 84-65 to advance to the finals.

Class 6A girls finals

Sparkman 42, Gadsden City 32: Adrienne Webb had 17 points, eight rebounds, four steals and a blocked shot in Sparkmanís victory over Gadsden City.
