Hartselle soccer wins 2 of 3

Hartselle High’s boys soccer team took two of three matches in the Island Cup in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach this weekend.

After a 2-0 win over Gulf Shores in which Zack Woodruff scored twice, Hartselle fell to Tulsa Union 7-0.

The Tigers then rebounded with a 1-0 win over Robertsdale. Josh Harris scored the only goal.

Tulsa Union won the tournament with a 2-1 victory over Grissom.


Lawrence County 7 Brooks 2: Playing in the Muscle Shoals/Deshler tournament, Wes Holley (2-0) pitched a complete game win, striking out seven and allowing only three hits.

Coty Way was 3-for-4 with two home runs and three RBIs. Scott Steele hit a solo home run. Radney Wallace was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Holley added two singles with two runs scored. Josh Gaines, Matthew Pugh, and Britt White each had a double. Logan Terry added a single.

Central of Florence 4, Lawrence County 1: Lawrence County managed five hits with Steele getting a double. Matthew Pugh, Will Inman, Way and Wallace each added a single. Micah Little, Cole Whalen, and Way pitched for the Red Devils scattering six hits and striking out four.


Hazel Green 4, East Limestone 0: Playing in a pool-play game in the Trojan Classic at Hazel Green, the Lady Indians suffered a loss. Jyssica Pepper had a single for the only East Limestone hit of the game. Morgan Franks pitched and struck out four in four innings of work.

East Limestone 11, Scottsboro 0: Franks and Kayla Sneed combined for a no hitter. East Limestone jumped out early, scoring four runs in the top of the first inning of play and never looked back. Cassandra McKinney had two singles, while Carly Rhodes with two singles, a sacrifice fly and two RBIs. Franks had a triple and two RBIs. Danielle Holder ripped a single.

East Limestone 8, Ardmore 6: In the beginning of tournament play, Rhodes had two singles, one home run and three RBIs in the win. Sneed and Franks each had two singles. McKinney and Holder each had a single and a RBI each. Pepper added a single.

Franks took the win on the mound, giving up four hits in three innings. Sneed recorded the save after pitching one inning with one strikeout.

Hartselle 5, East Limestone 1: Sneed slugged a solo home run in the win, while Rhodes and Chelsea Turner each had one single each.

East Limestone 6, Elkmont 1: In a losers’ bracket game, Pepper had one double, one home run and two RBIs for East Limestone. Holder added a double and an RBI. McKinney contributed a double.

Franks and Rhodes each had a single and an RBI. Sneed and McKenzie Crabtree each had a single.

Morgan Franks recorded five strikeouts in the win, pitching four innings while giving up one hit.
