Red Raiders win five games to claim title

Decatur High’s softball team won all five games it played in the Brewer Lady Patriot Invitational to take the championship.
The Lady Red Raiders knocked off Priceville 5-4 in the championship game Saturday.
“I’m very proud of my girls,” said Decatur coach Ashley Mueller, whose team improved to 12-6. “They hit the ball very well.
“I’m looking forward to the rest of the season.”
Decatur 7, Priceville 2: In the tournament opener, Decatur scored four times in the first inning and three in in the second.
Whitney Fletcher had a double, while Jennifer Lawrence had two singles. Lindsey Hawkins added a single and triple. Amanda Tidwell had two singles, while Abi Lott singled once.
Lott got the win while striking out four.
Decatur 6, Tanner 1: Meg Whitten got the pitching win after working four innings and striking out seven. Mollie Russell came in at the start of the fifth inning and finished the game. She struck out three.
Decatur jumped out early again, scoring twice in the first inning and four times in the third.
Tidwell had a single and a double, while Fletcher, Lawrence, Hawkins, Russell and Jelisa Thompson each had a single.
Decatur 8, East Limestone 1: The Lady Red Raiders managed one run each in the first, second, four and fifth innings. Decatur then pounded out four runs in the sixth inning.
Russell got the win after striking out eight.
Hawkins tripled, homered and singled in the win. Liz Pressley singled twice. Lawrence doubled, and Fletcher, Tidwell and Thompson each had a single.
East Limestone’s only run came on an inside-the-park home run by Staci Johnson. Jyssica Pepper, Kayla Sneed and Carly Rhodes each had a single.
Franks pitched for East Limestone, working six innings and striking out two.
Decatur 4, Danville 3: Whitten got the win with relief help from Russell, who took the mound after one batter in the sixth inning.
Decatur managed two runs in the first inning and one each in the fourth and fifth innings.
Hawkins had two singles and a double. Russell doubled, and Fletcher, Tidwell and Thompson each had a single.
For Danville, Mallory George had a double and single. Kassie Cowart with two singles and one RBI, and Kristen Thompson had two singles. Brittany Atkins added a double, and Whitney Haggamaker had a single.
Decatur 5, Priceville 4: Russell pitched to get the win in the finals, striking out seven.
Once again, the Lady Red Raiders hit hard early, scoring three times in the opening inning. They added another run in the fourth and one in the fifth.
Fletcher had two singles and a triple. Hawkins, Thompson and Kara Couch each had two singles. Whitten and Pressley each had a single.
More Brewer tournament
Danville 4, Athens Bible 1: Thompson allowed four hits over six innings for the win.
She was busy at the plate also with a homer and two RBIs. Bethany Evans had a double, single and run scored, while Kristen Sparkman hit a two-run double and single.
Collecting one single each for the Lady Hawks were Atkins, Cowart, Kelsey Bell and Whitney Haggamaker.
Danville 2, Brewer 1: Atkins struck out four in six innings and had a single for the winners.
George was the big stick at the plate with two singles and double. Sparkman added two singles and scored two runs. Contributing a single each were Nicole Linderman, Thompson and Evans.
Danville 1, East Limestone 1: Atkins pitched for Danville, working four innings and allowing three hits.
Sparkman was 2-for-2 with two singles, while Linderman was 1-for-1 with a double and an RBI.
Kayla Sneed pitched four innings for East Limestone, giving up two hits.
Morgan Franks scored the Lady Indians’ only run after leading off the fourth inning with a double and crossing the plate on a single by Chelsea Turner.
Jyssica Pepper was 2-for-2 with two singles.
Danville (4-2) will host Vinemont at 6 p.m. Monday, while East Limestone will host Clements on Monday.
West Morgan 6, Tanner 0: Lauren Seibert pitched six innings for the win, striking out 11 and allowing one hit.
Whitlee Potter had a single and an RBI for West Morgan, while Rachel Harbin added a triple and two RBIs. Mandy Robinson doubled, singled and drove in a run. Mikaila Etheredge singled and drove in a run. Hayden Hamby had a single and an RBI.
The Lady Rebels (4-3) will play Monday at Good Hope.
Behind strong performances from Sallie Beth Burch, Whitney Hood and Summer Wilkerson, the Lawrence County Lady Red Devils split four games in the Auburn High Invitational on Friday and Saturday. The Lady Red Devils (9-3) will travel to play Decatur at 6 p.m. Monday.
Opelika 9, Lawrence County 1: In the Auburn opener Friday, Hood, a sophomore, had Lawrence County’s only hit and scored its only run.
Lawrence County 17, Valley 0: Burch cracked a grand slam and Hood had two singles and double in the four-inning contest. Ashley Pitt was strong at the plate with two singles, a double and four RBIs. Shae Lane got in the fun with a single and double.
Wilkerson was masterful on the mound giving up no hits and striking out five.
Lawrence County 1, Smiths Station 0: Wilkerson continued to puzzle batters as she tossed her second straight no-hitter while striking out seven and walking two.
Burch provided the contest’s only run with a solo homer in the top of the sixth inning.
Nicole Jackson, Kassie Terry and Hood all slapped a single apiece.
Hueytown 8, Lawrence County 0: The Lady Red Devils were eliminated when they failed to record a hit in the Saturday afternoon game.
