Athens scores early to improve to 14-1

Athens High's baseball team scored a 12-5 win over Lauderdale County on Friday in the Lauderdale County tournament in Rogersville.

Athens (14-1) scored six times in the first inning with the help of five singles.

Todd Pepper finished 3-for-5 with three singles and two RBIs, and Zack Brock was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Colin McMurry was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI, and Brad Reasonover was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Tyler Dorning and Kyle Chronister each went 2-for-4.

Leon Graves had a single and an RBI.

Reasonover got the win after working seven innings, striking out four and allowing five hits and one earned run.

Decatur Heritage 10-6, Red Bay 9-15: In the first game, Decatur Heritages' Drew Atchley doubled in the bottom of the seventh to drive home two runs for the win.

He finished with two doubles and three RBIs. Bo Godwin had two singles and two stolen bases. Brent Denson had a double and a single. Luke Adams, Chris Oliver and Chase Wright each had two singles.

In the second game, Atchley had two singles.

Priceville 3-26, Elkmont 1-1: In the opening game, Priceville won as Will Stevens pitched a complete game, striking out 13 and giving up only two hits.

Eli Allen went 2-for-2, and Rand Hutchison, Dustin Chambers and Lance Hughes each had a single.

In the second game, Priceville (13-3) got a 3-for-4 performance from Aaron Sawyer. Hutchison was 2-for-3.

Gene Blankenship got the win after working five innings and striking out four.

Decatur Heritage 11-0, Tanner 9-11: The Decatur Heritage Eagles took the first game of a Thursday doubleheader as Luke Adams went 3-for-4 with a three-run homer and six RBIs, and Bo Godwin went 3-for-5 with three singles.

Drew Atchley added a double and two RBIs. Winning pitcher Chris Oliver went five innings, allowing four runs on five hits.

For Tanner, Clay McMeans went 2-for-3 with two singles, and Keith Shoulders went 2-for-5 with a double and two RBIs.

George Adams and David Adams each had a single.

In the second game, Tanner used three RBIs from Shoulders, two singles and an RBI from McMeans, and a single, double and an RBI from Cliff Bunch.

Winning pitcher Corey Ham went all five innings for the Rattlers, striking out two.

Softball

Hartselle 7, Hazel Green 1: Sara Lang blasted a two-run homer to help pace Hartselle to a win.

Audrey McClanahan added a three-run double, and Breanna Segars was 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI.

Segars got the pitching win. She worked seven innings, struck out 10 and gave up three hits.

Lawrence County 2, Thompson 2: Kassie Terry paced the Lady Red Devils at the plate with an RBI single. Kaylyn Smith pitched and allowed six hits while striking out two.

Lawrence County 1, Haleyville 0: Summer Wilkerson got the pitching win after striking out 11 and allowing two hits.

At the plate, Whitney Hood had an RBI single. Ashley Pitt doubled once, and Shay Lane singled once.

Soccer

Priceville girls 2, Madison County 1: Whitney Westmoreland scored both goals for Priceville.

Elizabeth Wheeler was the Lady Bulldogs' goalkeeper.

Madison County boys 5, Priceville 1: The Bulldogs' lone goal against the state's No. 16 team in Class 1A-4A came on a penalty kick made by Ryan Woodson.

Tennis

Russellville boys 5, Austin 4: The Black Bears (2-3) won three of six singles matches but dropped two of three in doubles.

In singles, Kyle Smith gave Austin a win at No. 2, while Kyle Justice won at No. 4, and Weston Brown won at No. 6.

At No. 3 doubles, Justice and Ben Ward pulled off a victory for the Black Bears.
