Athens Bible sweeps way to softball tournament title

Athens Bible School’s softball team swept six games this weekend to win the Woodville (Tenn.) tournament.

ABS (18-1) rolled up 61 runs in the six victories, and pitchers Abbie Melvin and Haley Sandberg each got three wins.

Athens Bible 13, Decatur Heritage 0: Melvin picked up the pitching win as ABS rolled behind a variety of ways of scoring.

Athens Bible 3, Woodville 2: Sandberg got the win, while Ashlee Eaton delivered three singles.

Athens Bible 18, Priceville 4: Eaton got three singles again, and Kirsten McClure slugged a three-run home run. Melvin doubled, singled and got the pitching win.

Athens Bible 6, Skyline 5: The Lady Trojans scored four times in the last inning to win it. Emily Cathey delivered a three-run double to tie it, and Sandberg singled Cathey home for the game-winner.

Sandberg got the pitching win.

Athens Bible 15, DAR 0: Eaton tripled twice in the win, while Emily Irwin had a triple and a double.

McClure doubled twice. Sandberg was the winning pitcher.

Athens Bible 6, Fyffe 3: In the tournament finals, Melvin pitched the Lady Trojans to a victory.

McClure gave ABS a home run, a single and two RBIs.
