Calhoun wins 2 at Disney tourney

Lacey Keenum slugged a second-inning grand slam to pace Calhoun’s softball team to a 7-0 victory against Sussex Community College of New Jersey on Monday at the Disney Wide World of Sports Complex.

The win capped a day in which the Lady Warhawks won two of three in the Walt Disney Spring Break Event.

Earlier in the day, Calhoun split two games with defending NJCAA Division III national champion, Monroe Community College of Rochester, N.Y. Calhoun won the first game 3-0 and dropped the second 6-0.

Calhoun (14-5) will play again Tuesday at noon against Prairie State of Illinois.

Calhoun 3, Monroe 0: Alicia Hall pitched six scoreless innings, allowing two hits and striking out eight. Breanna Lee came in and slammed the door shut in the seventh.

Calhoun had four hits. Jenia Stephenson had a double, while Lee, Brittany Norton and Keenum each had a single.

Monroe 6, Calhoun 0: Monroe started with four consecutive hits and never looked back. Calhoun had three hits, all singles by Megan Hensley, Brianna Holt and Keenum.

Calhoun 7, Sussex 0: Hall scattered two hits over seven innings while striking out eight to get the pitching win.Keenum added a pair of singles to her grand slam. Lindsey Lowrey contributed a double, and Christine McLaughlin and Stephenson each had a single.

Calhoun 4 Wallace-Dothan 3: Wallace-Dothan led Calhoun 3-0 before the Lady Warhawks went on a five-hit spree in the fourth.

Ashley Blankenship and Keenum hit back-to-back singles. Lee followed with a triple down the right field line to score Blankenship and Keenum.

Lee scored on Whitney Mooney’s double.

With the score tied in the fifth, Keenum blasted a solo home run to put the Lady Warhawks ahead. Hall had six strikeouts in six innings to get the win before Lee closed out the game to get the save.

Wallace-Dothan 3, Calhoun 0: Calhoun and Wallace-Dothan finished regulation play in a 0-0 deadlock. The Lady Warhawks failed to score, and Wallace-Dothan ended the game in the bottom of the eighth with a three-run home run.
