Ty Chancelor in charge of Austin’s win

Ty Chancelor rapped two doubles and a single, and knocked in two runs as Austin won 9-4 over Springville in the opening round of the Buccaneer Classic in Hoover on Tuesday.

Jake McCay had a pair of doubles and two RBIs. Lakin Laughmiller added a two-run double for the Black Bears.

Austin (7-11) rallied from a 4-1 deficit with five runs in the fifth inning.

Bobby Foster got the win pitching a complete game. He struck out five and surrendered four hits.

Austin plays a pair of tournament games Wednesday. Austin plays Southside of Gadsden at 1:30 p.m. and Bryant of Tuscaloosa at 4 p.m.

Hewitt-Trussville 6, Decatur 5: The Red Raiders led 5-3 going into the bottom of the seventh inning, but couldn’t hold on in the Mountain Brook tournament. Decatur (10-7) lost less than 24 hours after flexing its muscle 10-1 over Walker.

Drei Marthaler took the loss for Decatur, pitching four innings, giving up four runs on six hits while striking out one.

John Frost went 2-for-4 with two doubles, two runs scored and an RBI. Also for Decatur, Will Dennis went 1-for-3, Clint Dunlap went 1-for-2 and Tyler Spivey was 1-for-2 with a run scored.

Decatur plays a doubleheader Wednesday, going against Winfield at 10 a.m. before playing host Mountain Brook 20 minutes following the conclusion of the first game.

West Morgan 11, Corner 1: West Morgan (14-5) moved into the championship game of the Dora tournament with the win as Tyler Jones tossed a one-hitter and struck out five to pick up the victory.

Josh McAbee went 2-for-4, Anthony Atemon was 3-for-4 with two doubles and Brent Lea went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

The Rebels took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first.

Corner cut the lead in half in the bottom of the inning, then West Morgan broke the game open, scoring four runs in the second, two more in the fourth and three in the sixth.

West Morgan 8, Falkville 2: McAbee and Daniel Corpi both went 3-for-4 with two doubles as West Morgan overcame 2-0 first-inning deficit to win.

Jacob Crowell picked up the win from the mound, pitching all seven innings in which he gave up eight hits, two runs and struck out two.

East Lawrence 12, 0; Sheffield 4, 7: The Eagles came from behind to take the opener before dropping the nightcap.

In the first game, Jonathan Allen, Ethan Hopkins and Tyler Boyd each recorded two RBIs to pace East Lawrence (8-7).

Allen went 2-for-4, Hopkins was 4-for-5 and Boyd was 2-for-3. Christian Lawless picked up the win, tossing all seven innings, giving up four runs on four hits. East Lawrence tied the game at 3 in the top of the fourth before Sheffield put a run on the board in the bottom of the inning. East Lawrence then scored two runs in the fifth, four in the sixth and three in the seventh to take the win.

In the second game, Josh Aldridge took the loss, going five innings in which he gave up five runs on four hits while striking out two. Hunter Rivers went 2-for-3 to lead the Eagles.

Golf

Golden Eagle Classic: Auburn High won Athens High’s golf tournament with a two-day score of 2-under par 573.

Athens’ fifth-place finish was bouyed by Tuesday’s 301. Joe Higginbotham and Craig Whitt both shot 73s. Also for Athens, Will Morrow carded a 76 and Brian Chandler recorded a 79.

Decatur finished seventh, helped by a final-round 313.

For Decatur on Tuesday, Bill Nabors shot a 74, Stuart Morehead recorded a 79 and Andrew Lowry had an 80.
