Decatur outslugs Brewer
Lady Red Raiders improve
to 20-7 with their victory

Decatur High blitzed Brewer with five first-inning runs before cruising to the 12-1, five-inning victory on the softball diamond.

The Lady Red Raiders (20-7)tacked on seven runs in the fourth inning to push the lead past 10 runs, which brought the mercy rule into effect.

Abi Lott picked up the win for Decatur, striking out eight batters in five innings. She gave up two hits and helped her cause at the plate, recording two singles and an RBI.

Lindsey Hawkins led Decatur with three RBIs on two singles and a double. Whitney Fletcher, Kara Couch and Meg Whitten each had a single, with Fletcher recording two RBIs.

Also for Decatur, Scarlett Wright, Amanda Tidwell and Me'Osha Simpson each had two singles.

For Brewer, Meagan Hormel had a double, while Ashley Henderson singled.

Decatur will host Athens at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Hatton 5, West Morgan 1: Lauren Seibert took the loss for West Morgan, giving up five runs on two hits. She walked four batters, including three back-to-back-to-back in the first inning. She struck out seven.

Whitlee Potter led West Morgan (16-9) with a double and a run scored. Ashley Thorn had a single.

West Morgan will play at Danville at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Hartselle 5, Oak Mountain 4: Kristy Pevahouse had only one hit against Oak Mountain, but it was big. Her seventh-inning homer gave the Lady Tigers the game-winning run.

Breanna Segars got the win for the Hartselle, giving up four runs on eight hits. She struck out five.

At the plate for Hartselle (17-5), Sara Lang went 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI double. Also, Whitley Collins was 1-for-3 with a run and a double.

Hartselle will face West Point at home Tuesday.

Speake 4, Danville 3: Kylie Black went the distance for Speake, picking up the pitching win by holding Danville to three runs on five hits in seven innings. She struck out 10.

At the plate, Speake's Revia Brown led all hitters with three singles. Malea Hensley added a double. Whitney Sparks and Paige Atkins each had a single.

Speake will host Meek on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.

Lawrence County 10, Fairview 0: Summer Wilkerson pitched a perfect three innings to pick up the win for Lawrence County. She struck out seven of the nine batters she faced before being relieved.

Wilkerson went 2-for-4 at the plate to help her cause.

Also for Lawrence County (18-6), Nicole Jackson was 3-for-3 with two singles and a double. Ashley Pitt went 2-for-4 with a home run. Sallie Beth Burch added a home run, and Ragan Fleming had a double.

Lawrence County will host Fairview at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Soccer

Decatur boys 2, Fort Payne 0: Raul Alanis scored a goal and recorded an assist as Decatur improved to 5-0-2 heading into this weekend's Bob Jones tournament.

Mitch Fawcett scored the other goal, and Andrew Wenzler pitched the shutout in goal. Decatur opens the tournament Friday at 7:45 p.m. against Austin.

Priceville boys 1, Sheffield 0: Tim Savoy scored the only goal of the game early in the first half, while goalkeeper Lorand Dragu got the shutout.

The Bulldogs will travel to Huntsville to face Westminster on Tuesday night.

Baseball

Hatton 9, Falkville 0: In the 2A, Area 15 opener for both teams, Will Nichols paced Hatton by pitching a three-hit shutout. He struck out 11 in seven innings of work.

Matthew Dudley helped pace the Hatton offense by going 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs. Darren Hand was 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs.

Nathan Berryman and Chase Martin each went 2-for-5, and Nichols was 2-for-4. Berryman drove home two runs, and Martin accounted for one RBI.

Tevin Terrell and Caleb Hatton each had a single.

West Morgan 14, Tanner 3: Anthony Atemon helped West Morgan get a positive jump on 2A, Area 14 play by picking up the win from the mound. He went five innings, giving up three runs on four hits while striking out six.

Atemon also had a big day at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs.

Also for West Morgan, Josh McAbee went 3-for-3 with two singles, a double and an RBI. Seth Wallace was 3-for-4 with two doubles and four RBIs. Tyler Jones was 3-for-4 with three singles and an RBI.

The two teams face each other again today in a doubleheader beginning at 4:30 p.m.

Hazel Green 10, Decatur 1: Decatur's Drei Marthaler struggled on the mound lasted only 1 1/3 innings, giving up six runs on six hits and the Red Raiders dropped a non-area game.

Alex Gist, Will Dennis, William Sartain, Clint Dunlap, Pete Brown and Michael Schuster each had a single.

Decatur (8-12) will play at Madison Academy on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Golf

East Lawrence 211, R.A. Hubbard 220: In a match at Valley Landing Golf Course, the top score came from Justin Poole of West Morgan, which fielded only three players and didn't compete in the team standings. Poole shot a 37. Teammate Jacob Dockery had a 43.

For East Lawrence, Colby Buttram had a 42, and Calen Coan added a 49. Ramsee Miller's 51 paced R.A. Hubbard, while Devans Orr and Fred Davenport each shot a 55.
