One on one with ...
West Morgan's Anthony Atemon

Teammates and coaches agree there's never a dull moment around West Morgan senior pitcher/outfielder Anthony Atemon. Rebels' coach Todd Stephens and his West Morgan players say that Atemon keeps things interesting on the field and in the dugout. With his teammates gathered around sure to be entertained by his answers, Atemon caught 10 questions from The Daily's Brooke Milam this week:

Question: What would you say is one of your strengths as a pitcher?

Answer: I don't let runs affect the way I pitch. I don't get cautious. I think I've always been able to focus, but since I've grown up it's gotten easier, too.

Q: What is the funniest thing that's ever happened on the field, at practice or in a game?

A: Last year, I threw a ball from the outfield to Josh Gentry (a senior last season) at second base. It hit him on the head and then he just fell down. He got up, though. He wasn't hurt. But we still laugh about that. It was hilarious.

Q: What is the best meal you've ever eaten?

A: Dreamland — in general. All I can eat ribs and banana pudding — that big pan of banana pudding.

Q: When was the last time you played against one of your friends?

A: Priceville — like the whole team from Priceville. I know pretty much all of them. We've played against those guys forever.

Q: What is your favorite major league hat?

A: The Cincinnati hat. The all-red one with the white "C." Not really the team, I just like the hat.

Q: About basketball, do you have anyone left standing in your NCAA bracket?

A: I'm hoping Florida wins it all. I didn't fill one out, but my Final Four would've been North Carolina, Florida, Ohio State and UCLA. But North Carolina lost. I cried.

Q: Who is one high school athlete who you have heard about that seems impressive?

A: We don't even know his name, but the guy from Pell City. (Right-handed pitcher Adam Purdy, a junior.) He's a pitcher and he's supposed to throw like 93 and he's just a junior. I don't want to bat against him.

Q: If you could be a guest on any television show, what would it be?

A: Deal or No Deal, or the Millionaire show — I want money. Or Oprah. She gives away a lot of free stuff.

Q: If you had a free plane ticket anywhere in the United States, where would you go?

A: I'd go to Miami, Fla. — again. My big brother (Tim) lives there. The last time I went was Christmas, and it was hotter there than it is here now — on Christmas.

Q: What is one thing you're scared of?

A: Snakes. I wouldn't get close to a snake. I'd run and wouldn't stop running — maybe even climb a tree.
