Calhoun softball sweeps pair at home

Calhoun swept a home doubleheader from Itawamba (Miss.) in community college softball Tuesday, winning 6-2 and 9-1.

In the first game, the Lady Warhawks rallied from a 2-1 deficit in the sixth inning. Calhoun opened the scoring with a run in the second inning. Courtney Terry singled and scored on a single by Breanna Lee. After Itawamba scored twice in the top of the sixth, Calhoun rebounded with five runs off six hits in the bottom half.

Lindsey Lowery went 3-for-4 with a double and two singles. Lee and Terry each went 2-for-3 with a single and a double. Stevie Griffin tripled in the sixth to score two runs. Jenia Stephenson had a double, and Brittany Norton and Kala Weatherly each had a single in the sixth inning.

Alicia Hall got the win after striking out five and allowing two hits. Lee got the save.

In the second game, Lowery had two doubles, while Lee and Weatherly each doubled once. Terry singled twice, and Whitney Mooney, Brianna Holt, Brittany Chafin, Griffin, Norton and Ashley Blankenship each had a single.

Lee got the win with four strikeouts, while giving up three hits.

Calhoun (21-5) will face Bevill State-Sumiton in a road doubleheader Saturday.
