Atchley leads Decatur Heritage blowout win

Drew Atchley had a double, two singles and three RBIs as Decatur Heritage scored a 19-5 win over J.O. Johnson on Saturday.

Teammate Luke Adams homered, singled and drove in three runs. Adams also picked up the pitching win.

Decatur Heritage (6-10) will play at home Monday against Hazlewood at 4:30 p.m.

Priceville 17, Westminster Christian 4: In the first of Priceville’s two victories of the day, Dustin Chambers went 3-for-4, ripped three home runs and drove in five runs. Teammate Eli Allen was 4-for-5 with a home run, while Wes Long and Matt Croft each blasted homers.

Jeremy Hale was 2-for-3.

Winning pitcher Rand Hutchison worked six innings and struck out three.

Priceville 11, DAR 1: The Bulldogs closed out the day with a win over DAR as Hutchison, Heath Parker and Hale each slugged homers.

Hutchison, Kody Etheridge and Aaron Sawyer each went 2-for-3. Parker was 2-for-2.

Parker was the winning pitcher, striking out four in five innings.

Priceville (23-5) will play Monday at Lawrence County.

Muscle Shoals 12, Hatton 0: Nathan Berryman led the Hornets at the plate, going 3-for-3 with three singles. Will Nichols added a single.

Hatton 8, East Lawrence 6, 9 innings: Matthew Dudley helped Hatton (17-10) bounce back from a first-game loss, picking up the win from the mound and single-handedly ending the game from the plate. Down 6-5 in the bottom of the ninth, Dudley rocked a pitch over the fence with two men on to lift the Hornets. Dudley finished 2-for-4.

On the mound, he pitched 1 2/3 innings, giving up one run on one hit while striking out one. Conner Pierce had a single for Hatton, which also got a double from Nichols.

For East Lawrence, Blake Terry had two singles and a double. Also for the Eagles, Russ Stephenson went 2-for-5 with a homer and a single.

Hatton will host Tanner on Monday at 4:30 p.m.

Softball

Lawrence County 1, Walker 0: Playing in the Tiger Classic in Hartselle, Ashley Pitt hurled a shutout for the Lady Red Devils while striking out two.

Sallie Beth Burch singled and scored on a single by Kassie Terry. Amber Dutton added two singles, and Whitney Hood had one single.

Gardendale 3, Lawrence County 0: Summer Wilkerson pitched for Lawrence County and struck out seven in six innings of work. Hood, Terry and Pitt each had a single.

Tennis

Benjamin Russell Invitational: Kyle Justice, Rondrico Isom, Weston Brown and Taylor Collins all tasted victory for Austin.

Justice, playing at the team’s No. 1 singles position, made it to the semifinals with a 10-4 win over Wetumpka’s Scott Hubbard and a 10-2 win over Cullman’s Alex Chancy before falling to Bob Jones’ Varun Sarapaeni 10-2.

No. 5 Isom defeated Wetumpka’s Kyle Byars 10-2 before losing to 10-2 in the next round. And the No. 2 doubles team of Brown and Collins made it to the semis by beating Russellville (default) and Wetumpka (10-3). They lost to Russellville 10-2.
