Hartselle wins 4 in softball

Austin Highís baseball team beat two different opponents Saturday to bring its record to .500.
Playing at Huntsville High, the Black Bears beat Huntsville 12-9 and Butler 15-2.
That pushed Austinís win streak to four straight and gave the Black Bears a 16-16 record.
Austin now will host Sparkman at 6:30 p.m. Monday.
Austin 12, Huntsville 9: Ty Chancelor had four singles and four RBIs and Jake McCay had a two-run homer and single and another four RBIs as the Black Bears scored plenty on the road.
Gabe Porter gave up four hits in three innings in relief to get the win.
Laken Laughmiller poked a homer and double for Austin. Matthew Tittle had two singles and an RBI in the victory.
Austin 15, Butler 2: Jake Morgan struck out three in four innings of work to get the win.
Chancelorís bat remained hot with a two-run homer and four RBIs. Kayne Stuart had two singles, and Ben Bullard had a double and two RBIs.
West Morgan 6, Decatur Heritage 2: Tyler Jones struck out a dozen batters and gave up five hits in seven innings to get the win.
Seth Wallace led the Rebels at the plate with two doubles and two singles. He collected four RBIs in the contest.
Michael Clem had three singles for West Morgan. Brent Lea, Caleb Brown, Tyler Rogers and Jones each had a single for West Morgan.
For Decatur Heritage, Bo Godwin had a triple and two singles, and Chris Oliver had three singles. Drew Atchley and Trent McLemore each had a single.
West Morgan (22-6) will host Hatton in a Class 2A, Area 15 game at 4:30 p.m. Monday.
Bartlett (Tenn.) 6, Hartselle 0: Bartlett scored six runs in the first three innings and breezed as the Tigers managed only four hits in a game played in Cullman.
Ryder Brasher had a double and single, while Tyler Young and Luke Bole each collected a single in the loss.
Hartselle 11, Grissom 8: Brasher got the win after pitching two innings and giving up a lone run. At the plate, Brasher had a single and an RBI and scored a run. Justin Hargett pitched one inning in relief and picked up the save.
Bole had the big hit for the Tigers with a grand slam in the third inning.
Caleb Murphy had two doubles and three RBIs. Ethan Widener had two singles and scored a run. Quinn Dunlap, Josh Aycox and Jake Bradford each singled for Hartselle. Aycox also scored three runs.
Hartselle (20-14) will travel to Brewer for a Tuesday doubleheader, beginning at 4:30 p.m.
Priceville 5-2, Falkville 0-1: In the opening game of Pricevilleís doubleheader sweep, winning pitcher Gene Blankenship tossed six scoreless innings in the first game and struck out six.
Heath Parker was 1-for-3 with a double for the winners, while Kyle Bunnell, Matt Croft and Kody Etheridge each had a single.
In the second game, winning pitcher Dustin Chambers worked six innings and struck out three.
Jeremy Hale was 2-for-2 with a double, and Croft, Parker and Etheridge each had a single.
Priceville (26-6) will face Fairview at home Monday at 4:30 p.m.
Athens Bible 10-16, Elkmont 0-11: The Trojans powered past Elkmont for a doubleheader sweep.
In the opener, Joseph Baker worked the complete six innings, struck out five and allowed two hits.
Connor Brown and Jordan Pugh each had three singles. Will Schumbley and Jonathan Winland each had two, and Baker had a double and a single.
In the second game, Brown was 2-for-3 with two solo home runs. Pugh had two singles and two doubles.
Tyler Sherrod added two singles and a double, while Logan McWhirter ripped three singles. Winland and Troy Steelman each singled twice.
Brown got the pitching win after working 2 2/3 innings of relief.
Lawrence County 10, Hatton 8: The Red Devils pounded out 16 hits in a win at Hatton.
Radney Wallace led Lawrence County by going 4-for-4 with two doubles and four runs. Coty Way was 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs. Logan Terry was 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI.
Will Inman was 2-for-4, and Wes Holley hit his ninth home run of the season, a deep shot over the left-field fence, and drove in three runs. Thomas Glenn and Matthew Pugh had one single and one RBI each. Josh Gaines added a single.
Way got the pitching win, striking out four in seven innings.
Lawrence County 17, Colbert County 6: Scott Steele led the Red Devils going 3-for-4 with a grand slam and a double, driving in eight runs and scoring twice.
Terry went 3-for-3 with a double and a RBI. Wallace was 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBIs and three runs. Pugh was 2-for-5 with a home run, three RBIs and two runs.
Gaines was 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs. Britt White was 1-for-2 with a RBI. Paul King added a single.
Taylor McCulloch was the winning pitcher, striking out five in three innings.
Lawrence County will play East Lawrence at home Monday at 4 p.m. in Class 4A, Area 15 play.
Hartselle 9, Giles County (Tenn.) 0: In the Lady Tigersí opening game of the Bob Jones Invitational, Mary Curtis tossed a shutout and struck out nine in five innings.
Michel Fields was 2-for-2 with a run, two doubles and four RBIs, and Catie Keel was 2-for-2 with two RBIs.
Hartselle 11, Breckinridge (Ky.) 2: Kayla Orr went 2-for-3 with a run, four RBIs, a double and a home run. Kristy Pevahouse was 2-for-4 with three runs, an RBI and a triple, while Whitley Collins was 3-for-4 with three runs and a pair of RBIs.
Curtis got the pitching win and struck out three in four innings.
Hartselle 8, Prattville 4: Kayla Orr went 2-for-2 and scored twice, while Chandler Orr was 1-for-3 with a run, a double and two RBIs.
Curtis struck out four and got her third pitching win of the tournament.
Hartselle 5, Ezell-Harding (Tenn.) 4: Collins went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI double. Breanna Segars was 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.
Curtis pitched five innings for the win and struck out seven.
Hartselle 3, Bob Jones 1: In the round of 16, Curtis got another win and struck out four in five innings.
Audrey McClanahan was 1-for-2 with two RBIs and a double, and Breanna Segars was 1-for-2 with an RBI.
Alexandria 8, Hartselle 3: In the quarterfinals, the Lady Tigers fell despite getting a 2-for-3 performance from Chandler Orr with a run, two RBIs and a homer. Haley Miller was 2-for-3 with a double, and Fields was 2-for-3 with a run, an RBI and a double.
Hartselle (32-7), ranked second in Class 5A, will face No. 5 Gardendale at home Tuesday at 4 p.m.
Ezell-Harding (Tenn.) 2, Lawrence County 0: Also playing in the Bob Jones Invitational, Lawrence County lost its opener. Sallie Beth Burch had a double, and Whitney Hood and Summer Wilkerson each had a single.
Thompson 2, Lawrence County 0: Wilkerson, Amber Dutton and Kassie Terry each had a single for the Lady Red Devils.
Lawrence County 9, Lincoln County (Tenn.) 1: Wilkerson got the pitching win after working six innings and striking out 10.
Ashley Pitt had two singles, a double and an RBI for the winners, while Burch added three singles. Hood had two singles and four RBIs, and Nicole Jackson singled twice.
Huntsville 10, Lawrence County 0: Burch doubled, and Ragan Fleming singled for the Lady Red Devils (25-11), who are ranked No. 10 in 4A and will play at Florence on Monday.
