Austin advances to 2nd round at Bob Jones
Lady Raiders falls in three games

Austin made the second round of the Bob Jones Invitational this weekend in Madison.

After winning twice in pool play Friday, Austin beat Coffee County (Tenn.) 3-2 in the first round of single-elimination play before losing 10-0 to Hendersonville (Tenn.) in the next game. Decatur played three times and lost all three, falling to Brookwood 7-5, Davidson Academy (Tenn.) 5-4 and eventual runner-up Corner 4-1.

Austin 3, Coffee County (Tenn.) 2: Trailing 2-1, Austin scored twice in the sixth inning. Ali Barnett singled to scored Rebecca Stevenson, and Lauren Lindsey singled to score Sarah Corn.

Barnette finished 3-for-3 with two singles and an RBI. Amy Anderson, Lindsey, Corn and Stevenson each had a single.

Elizabeth Gillespie got the pitching win in relief.

Hendersonville (Tenn.) 10, Austin 0: In pool play, the Lady Black Bears (12-24) had two singles, including one each from Corn and Haley Barnette.

Brookwood 7, Decatur 5: Whitney Fletcher singled twice for Decatur (28-12), while Lindsey Hawkins had one single.

Davidson Academy (Tenn.) 5, Decatur 4: Jelisa Thompson had a triple and a single for the Lady Red Raiders, while Meg Whitten, Hawkins and Fletcher each had a single.

Corner 4, Decatur 1: In the first round of single-elimination play, Thompson, Hawkins, Abi Lott and Kara Couch each had one single.
