Prater leads UAH in GSC Crossover

Athens grad and UAH freshman Kristina Prater clubbed a homer, double and single and added three RBIs as Alabama-Huntsville whipped Ouachita Baptist 7-1 in the Gulf South Conference Crossover opener at Wilson Morgan Park in Decatur on Thursday.

Prater's homer came in the fifth inning to open the Lady Chargers lead to 6-0 at the time. UAH teammate Amy Harris of Reelsville, Ind., cracked two homers.

Delta State 8, North Alabama 0: The University of North Alabama softball team committed three errors and allowed five unearned runs in the loss.

UNA managed two hits and left three runners on base in the five-inning game, suffering its first run-rule defeat since early in the 2005 season.

Stephanie Glienke (10-5) took the loss on the mound after pitching the game's first 2 2/3 innings. She gave up seven hits and six runs, of which only two were earned.

Edie Oliver improved to 6-2 on the year for DSU. Her two-hit shutout represented her second victory over the Lions this season.

Lindsey Greene, a junior from Decatur, had a single and Sarah Whitlow, a sophomore from Hartselle, had a triple for the Lady Lions' only hits of the game.

The loss drops UNA to 27-14. The Lady Lions are 8-4 in GSC contests.

The Lady Statesmen improve to 32-21 (12-8 GSC) for the season.

UNA will play a pair of games at the Crossover on Friday. The Lions will take on Henderson State at 2 p.m. before facing Ouachita Baptist at 4.

West Florida's Emily Burge (12-11) tossed a no-hitter in her team's 5-0 win over Christian Brothers.

Ashlee Simpson of Decatur had two singles and two RBIs for the winning Argos.

Results of over Crossover games Thursday: Valdosta State 8, Arkansas Tech 0; West Georgia 6, Ouachita Baptist 4; Southern Arkansas 15, West Alabama 6; West Florida 6, Delta State 5; West Alabama 6, Arkansas-Monticello 1.

Gulf South Conference Crossover softball games at Decatur’s Wilson Morgan Park:

Noon: West Georgia vs. Arkansas Tech; West Florida vs. Arkansas-Monticello; West Alabama vs. Henderson State.

2 p.m.: UNA vs. Henderson State; Valdosta State vs. Delta State; West Florida vs. Southern Arkansas; West Georgia vs. Christian Brothers.

4 p.m: UNA vs. Ouachita Baptist; UAH vs. Arkansas Tech; West Alabama vs. Christian Brothers; Valdosta State vs. Arkansas-Monticello.

6 p.m.: UAH vs. Delta State.
