Alabama rides Bentley to late win over Georgia

Matt Bentley hit a game-winning RBI single in the ninth inning to lift Alabama to a 7-6 win over Georgia on Saturday night.
The Bulldogs (13-22, 5-9 Southeastern Conference) took a 6-5 lead in the eighth on Ryan Peisel’s run-scoring double and an RBI single by Joey Lewis.
But the Crimson Tide (21-15, 6-8) tied the game in the ninth when Greg Paiml scored on Jeff Texada’s squeeze bunt. Then Bentley later drove in the game-winning score on a single.
Tommy Hunter (3-3) allowed two runs, three hits and struck out three in 2 2/3 innings relief for the Crimson Tide.
Georgia’s Trevor Fields (1-6) gave up two runs, three hits and two walks in 1 1/3 innings. Starter Justin Earls allowed four runs and seven hits in four innings work.
South Carolina 10, Auburn 1: Travis Jones and James Darnell hit a pair of three-run homers in the first inning to give South Carolina all the runs it would need in Columbia, S.C., on Saturday.
The Gamecocks (27-8, 8-6 SEC) made up for Friday’s miserable performance with 15 hits. Jones went 3-for-4 on the afternoon and knocked in a total of four runs.
Arik Hempy (3-0) pitched 6 2/3 scoreless innings, giving up just two hits and striking out five to pick up the win.
Taylor Thompson (4-1) gave up two walks, two singles and two homers before being pulled in the first and getting the loss.
The Tigers (25-13, 4-10) scored their run in the ninth.
