Phillips' save sends West Morgan to playoffs

West Morgan High soccer needed to defeat Saint Bernard by two goals to make it to the playoffs.
And the Rebels got what they needed, barely, winning 4-2.
Ivan Uriostegui scored two goals and had an assist on a Jeremy Williams’ goal. Barrett Terry also scored on an assist by Jared Spooner.
With eight minutes remaining and West Morgan up 4-2, goalkeeper Mike Phillips turned away a penalty shot to preserve the two-goal advantage.
Decatur girls 4, Athens 1: Meg Adams scored two goals and Mary Elaine Williamson and Oak Park eighth-grader Taylor Rutherford each scored one for the Lady Red Raiders (12-7-4). Claire Walker, Anna Curl, Adams and eighth-grader Tara Givens recorded assists in the contest.
Decatur hosts Lee-Huntsville for the Class 5A, Section 7 title at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
West Morgan 7, Athens 0: Lauren Seibert struck out nine, allowed one hit, stole home, singled and scored another run in the Lady Rebels shutout Monday.
After Seibert stole home in the third inning, Ashley Thorn tacked on two more runs with a single.
In the fourth inning, Hayden Hamby laced an inside-the-park homer which plated three runs.
Kimberlee Denard also singled for the Lady Rebels.
West Morgan (32-12) hosts Good Hope at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Decatur Heritage 20-16, R.A. Hubbard 5-1: In the second game, Mallory Terry had a triple, a double and a home run. Brittany Denson had a double and a home run and Beth Cook had a single a two doubles.
Terry also picked up the win.
In the first game, Denson started at pitcher and also had a triple.
Katie Cook had two singles and Abbie Denard picked up a single for the Eagles (6-17)
Decatur 9, Danville 1: Mollie Russell struck out six in seven innings.
Whitney Fletcher went 3-for-4 with a solo home run and two singles and Meg Whitten had two singles, a double and three RBIs.
Amanda Tidwell went 2-for-4 with two singles.
Hartselle 2, Central Florence 1: Breanna Segars struck out 11 in seven innings pitched to lead the Lady Tigers.
Chandler Orr went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and
Kayla Orr was 2-for-3 with two singles.
Huntsville 8, Hartselle 5: Kristy Pevahouse went 2-for-4 to lead the Lady Tigers, Kayla Orr was 1-for-4 with an RBI triple, and Anna Hall was 1-for-3 with an RBI single. Audrey McClanahan was 1-for-3 with two run scored.
Alex Lewis picked up the win for Huntsville.
Lawrence County 4-3, Addison 0-0: Ashley Pitt twirled a no-hitter in the second game, striking out eight. Pitt also had an RBI double and Nichole Jackson added a triple.
Kaylyn Smith struck out 10 in the first game. Whitney Hood added a two run double and Cassie Terry had an RBI
Decatur girls 9, Athens 0: Decatur improved to 11-2 and 6-1 in section play Monday heading into Wednesday’s sectionals at Muscle Shoals.
Angee Stevens defeated Rachel Rosales 10-6.
Sarah Hodges beat Brock Brett, injury default.
Mary Virginia Sherrill beat Sarah Rosales 10-3.
Emily Suggs over Catherine Hunt 10-0.
Sarah Suggs downed Elizabeth Burgreen 10-0.
Burgoyne Fite defeated Aubrey Spry 10-3.
Stevens-Hodges beat R. Rosales-Brett 10-3.
Sherrill-E. Suggs stopped S. Rosales-Hunt 10-0.
S. Suggs-Fite defeated Burgreen-Spry 10-1.
Athens boys 5, Decatur 4: Decatur fell to 5-7 after losing to the Golden Eagles on Monday.
Trent Johnson (AHS) defeated Christopher Fite 10-7.
Corey Smith (AHS) defeated Will Breland 11-9.
