Falkville runs away with track and field sectionals

Both the Falkville boys and girls teams rolled to Class 2A, Section 3 track and field championships at home Friday.

In the boys division, Falkville scored 296 points, followed by Cold Springs (132), Brindlee Mountain (91), J.B. Pennington (66), Cleveland (61) and New Century (18).

In the girls division, Falkville had 311 points. Cold Springs (133) finished second, followed by Brindlee Mountain (114), J.B. Pennington (43), Cleveland (41) and New Century (6).

Individually for the girls, Krystal Gibbs won the 400 and 800 meters, while Lauren Estes took the 200 meters and 300 hurdles.

Alesia Smith won the 100 meters title.

Alisha Sparkman won the 100 hurdles, pole vault and javelin, and Paige McCarley took the high jump, triple jump long jump.

Falkville's Katrina Barnett won the shot put, and the Lady Blue Devils took the 400-meter relay and 1,600-meter relay.

Falkville dominated the boys meet, too. Shane Edge took the 200, 400 and 800 meters. Justin Blanchard won the 1,600 meters.

Cody Sewell won the 110 hurdles, high jump and long jump, while Jace Wilemon won the 300 hurdles.

Josh Henderson took the pole vault championship.

Falkville's Aaron Pitt won the shot put, and Jon Lindsey took the discus title.

Teammate Michael Dekich won the javelin.

In the boys relays, the Blue Devils won the 1,600 meters and 3,200 meters.

Softball

Lawrence County 6, Cullman 1: Winning pitcher Summer Wilkerson allowed two hits in four innings to go along with four strikeouts.

Morgan Smith had a single and two RBIs, while Shae Lane, Kassie Terry, Ashley Pitt and Sallie Beth Burch each had one single for the Lady Red Devils (37-13).

State soccer playoffs

First-round pairings of the Alabama High School Athletic Association state soccer playoffs Tuesday. Here are the local teams involved:
