Hatton sweeps into
Class 2A state semifinals

Hatton High swept Mars Hill in the Class 2A state baseball quarterfinals 12-1 and 11-7 on Friday.

The two wins send Hatton (30-19) into next week's semifinals against either Ranburne or West Morgan.

In Friday's second game, the Hornets' Will Nichols went 2-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs.

Chris Hutto went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer and an RBI single, and Tevin Terrell was 3-for-5 with three singles and two RBIs. Chase Martin was 3-for-4 with a double and two singles, and Zeke Nichols contributed an RBI single.

In the first game, the Hornets used five strong innings by winning pitcher Will Nichols, who allowed five hits while striking out four.

Darren Hand was 2-for-2 with four RBIs, and Caleb Hatton went 2-for-3 with a double. Zeke Nichols went 2-for-2 with two singles and an RBI. Chase Martin had an RBI single. Nathan Berryman was 2-for-3 with a pair of singles and two RBIs.

Athens Bible 6-0, Covenant Christian 2-4: In the first game, winning pitcher Joseph Baker struck out two batters while allowing five hits.

Will Chumbley had two doubles and two RBIs for Athens Bible, and Troy Steelman had two singles. Will Stinnett had one double and an RBI.

Ryan Morring had two singles, and Jordan Pugh had one single in the second game.

A.J. Price allowed seven hits while striking out one.

The two teams will play a deciding third game Saturday at 1 p.m.

Hopes Bluff 12-11, Danville 2-1: Danville had difficulty getting anything going against the Hopes Bluff pitchers Friday.

Roger Smith had two singles in the second game. Zac Ward had two hits.

In the first game, Danville had four hits, two of which coming off the bat of Ryan Rogers, who had a double and a single.
