Two wins, one area crown for Lady Raiders softball

Decatur High won twice Friday to take the Class 5A, Area 16 tournament championship at home.

After the Lady Red Raiders edged Muscle Shoals 2-1 in nine innings, Decatur hammered Russellville 13-3 in six innings. That game was called because of the 10-run mercy rule.

For winning its area tournament, Decatur (40-19) will host its first-round game in sub-state play Tuesday.

Decatur 2, Muscle Shoals 1: Lindsey Hawkins drove home the winning run when she singled to score Whitney Fletcher, who was on third base.

Fletcher finished with a double and a single, while Jennifer Lawrence had an RBI double. Meg Whitten added a single.

Winning pitcher Mollie Russell worked all nine innings, struck out six and allowed five hits.

Decatur 13, Russellville 3: Russell picked up her second pitching win of the day by striking out 10 in six innings of work. She gave up five hits.

At the plate, Hawkins helped pace Decatur by delivering two doubles, a single and two RBIs. Russell had a single, a double and an RBI, while Lawrence contributed a single, a double and two RBIs.

Fletcher doubled, and Abi Lott and Amanda Tidwell each had a single. Jelisa Thompson drove home a run.

Liz Pressley pitched in a triple and an RBI. Scarlett Wright singled twice, and Kara Couch had one single, driving in the Lady Raiders' last run to give them the mercy-rule win.

Class 4A, Area 15

Lawrence County 18, Priceville 3: Nicole Jackson went 3-for-3 with two singles, one triple and four RBIs to lead the Lady Red Devils to the area title.

Sallie Beth Burch was 3-for-4 with one double, a single and a home run.

Burch knocked in four runs.

Ashley Pitt was 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI, and Summer Wilkerson was 2-for-4 with one single and one double.

Danielle Richard had two singles and Presley Darling had a double and one RBI for Priceville.

Kaylyn Smith picked up the pitching win, allowing two runs on five hits.

Class 6A, Area 16

Sparkman 7, Austin 2: Playing in an elimination game in the area tournament at Sparkman, the Lady Black Bears fell to the hosts.

Austin is 21-34.

Class 4A, Area 16

Priceville 13, East Lawrence 0: Meaghan Bond had four strikeouts in five innings pitched to pick up the win Friday. Priceville was the runner-up in the finals.

Deleasa Henderson had two singles, one home run and six RBIs, while Katelyn St. John had one triple, two singles and three RBIs. Maria Stejskal, Emily Childers, Caitlin Williams and Sumer Boyd each had a single.

Priceville 13, East Lawrence 2, 10 innings: Bond allowed two runs and pitched all 10 innings in Priceville's victory Thursday. The Lady Bulldogs scored 11 times in the 10th inning.

Chasity Martin had three singles and a double, while Stejskal smacked three singles. Boyd had one triple and one single. Williams had a single.

Class 2A, Area 15

West Morgan 6, Tanner 2: Lauren Seibert pitched the Lady Rebels to victory, striking out seven and walking two in the area finals.

Seibert also went 2-for-4 with a single, a double and an RBI. Ashley Thorn was 2-for-4 with an RBI double, and Whitlee Potter knocked an RBI single for West Morgan (42-13). Hayden Hamby went 2-for-4 with two singles and a pair of runs.

For the Lady Rattlers, Haley Keenum had a single.
