Lady Warhawks drop to losers’ bracket

Calhoun swept two games of the Alabama Community College Conference softball tournament Saturday in Alabaster before falling Sunday.
In the opening game, Calhoun edged Jefferson Davis 1-0.
Winning pitcher Breanna Lee struck out 12 and allowed two hits. Calhoun scored once in the second inning. Lindsey Lowery singled, and Ashley Blankenship followed with a single. An error after Blankenship reached first allowed Lowery to score and Blankenship to reach third base.
Also for Calhoun, Courtney Terry had a double, while Kala Weatherly and Jenia Stephenson each had a single. Blankenship was 2 for 2.
In the second game, Calhoun beat Enterprise-Ozark 2-1.
Alicia Hall got the win for the Lady Warhawks with five innings of work.
Lee closed out the game to earn a save.
At the plate, Whitney Mooney and Lee each doubled, while Weatherly singled twice. Terry, Lowrey, Mooney and Brittany Chafin each had a single.
On Sunday, Bevill State-Sumiton beat Calhoun 2-1.
Calhoun’s lone run came in the bottom of the seventh when Stevie Griffin’s hit scored Mooney. Mooney and Blankenship reached base on errors with Lacey Keenum reaching first on a fielder’s choice to load the bases.
Griffin and Blankenship finished with a pair of singles, while Terry and Stephenson each had a single.
Calhoun (37-14) will face Jefferson State at noon Monday.
No. 8-ranked Calhoun and No. 14 Wallace State-Hanceville split a doubleheader Saturday, with Wallace State winning 5-3 in the first game and the Warhawks taking a 6-4 victory in the nightcap.
Wallace State (39-10, 23-6 ACCC) took two of three in the series with Calhoun (41-14, 19-8).
