LATE TUESDAY RESULTS

Softball

East Limestone 5-2, Cherokee County 0-1: In the opening round of the sub-state, East Limestone swept past Cherokee County.

In the first game, winning pitcher Kayla Sneed threw a one-hit shutout, striking out 11 and walking two.

Jyssica Pepper went 3 for 5 with three singles, while Sneed had a triple, and Danielle Holder had a single and three RBIs. Cassandra McKinney added a single and one RBI, and Staci Johnson had a double; Carly Rhodes, Chelsea Turner and Bess Rhodes all singled.

In the second game, East Limestone scored its first run when Morgan Franks drove in Pepper with a single in the third inning. In the bottom of the sixth, Sneed broke a 1-1 tie when her grounder in McKinney.

Franks finished 2-for-3 with a single, a double and an RBI. Sneed, the winning pitcher, struck out eight and allowed four hits.
