Tide moves closer to SEC tourney

The Alabama baseball team took a big step towards a berth in the 2007 Southeastern Conference Tournament with a 4-3 win over Mississippi State on Thursday night.
Sophomore right-hander Tommy Hunter logged his second complete game of the season and sophomore third baseman Alex Avila provided the offense with a fifth-inning grand slam.
Alabama (30-23, 14-14 SEC) needs a win over Mississippi State (32-17, 14-12 SEC) or a loss by Kentucky, LSU or Tennessee to clinch its 11th tournament appearance in Coach Jim Wells' 13 seasons.
Auburn 18, Kentucky 7: Joseph Sanders hit a grand slam in the seven-run fourth inning for Auburn. The Tigers (30-24, 9-19 Southeastern Conference) scored 12 runs in the first four innings, sending Kentucky starter Chris Rusin (5-4) from the game.
