The summer just got busier for some area high school athletes and a coach.

The Alabama High School Athletic Directors and Coaches Association selected eight athletes and one coach from Morgan, Limestone and Lawrence area schools to participate in the All-Star Sports Week in Huntsville on July 9-13.

The announcements for baseball, softball and soccer teams were announced Tuesday.

With the exception of football all-stars, the players picked are entering their senior year of high school.

"It is a great honor to be selected by my peers," said Speake head softball coach Doyle Hensley, who will coach the North team with Brad Myrick of Gardendale.

"I've been in this thing about 10 years now, and it is a great opportunity to meet and work with these kids."

On Hensley's team will be Decatur High shortstop Lindsey Hawkins, Hartselle outfielder Kristy Pevahouse and pitcher Casey Steadman of Ardmore.

Hensley said the team will practice July 10 and play the South team the following day.

"We don't plan on introducing the players to any new strategies, just let them practice, but we'll play to win," Hensley said.

"It's for fun, building friendships and good times the kids will remember the rest of their lives."

Suiting up on the North squad in baseball is Hartselle pitcher/infielder J.C. Bates.

Coaching the North are Todd McNutt of Haleyville, Mike Jenkins of Winfield, Mike Henson of Hazel Green and Lee Hall of Briarwood Christian. The team will practice July 8 and play July 9.

Two soccer players each from Decatur and Austin received invites to the all-star week.

In goal for the girls' North team will be Stephanie White of Austin.

Elizabeth Walker of Decatur High was named to the team as a defender.

Coaching the North girls will be Trudy Prestridge of Madison County High and Samantha Corker of Chelsea.

Austin midfielder Jake Mendenhall and Decatur High defender Michael Alfano were named to the boys North team.

Joe Webb of Mountain Brook and Matt Zedaker of Sylacauga are the North's coaches.

Soccer teams will practice July 9 and hit the field for real July 10.

Previously announced were the football, volleyball and basketball teams.

Outside hitter Jessy Willingham of Addison was named to the North volleyball team.

In girls basketball, Austin's Jazmine Powers and Hartselle's Jessi Smith will be in Huntsville.

Hazlewood's Kerry Jones and West Limestone's Zane Campbell made the North team in boys basketball.

Former Athens coach Randy White is the administrative coach for the North's boys and girls basketball teams.

Football players from the area to don pads in the Huntsville all-star festivities are Austin's Morgan Hull, Athens' Rob Ezell, Jacquez Pride and Karlos Jones, Hartselle's Dusty Schofield and R.A. Hubbard's Devans Orr and Corey Key.
