Even though wind made its presence known for Sundayís finals round of the eighth annual Decatur Jubilee Tennis Tournament, the conditions didnít seem to bother the players.

ďThere was a good turnout of people this year,Ē said Decaturís Kevin Hartman, who picked up some hardware for his doubles play.

ďThe competition was made up of quality players and good competition. I hope that I will be able to come to town and participate again next year.Ē

The four-day tournament attracted 198 players to the Point Mallard tennis complex. Plenty of medals were distributed Sunday.

Hartmanís family has been a big part of the tennis community in Decatur in recent years and is moving to St. Louis.

Hartman and his partner, David Collis, won the 4.5 Menís doubles consolation match by defeating Joe Beltran and Kenny Coffey 6-2, 5-7, 1-0.

Hartmanís mother, Maggie, said she will miss being a part of the Jubilee and Decatur tennis circuit.

Another player Brenda Baird of Decatur was quick to thank the tournament organizers.

ďRhonda (Wagner), Beth (Hall) and all of the other women who organized the tournament did an exceptional job,Ē Baird said. ďThe tournament was great. The new facilities are wonderful and help make the tournament possible.Ē

Baird and her teammate Beth Michetti defeated Debra Roberson and Janice Statterfield 6-4, 6-0 in womenís 2.5 doubles.

Ernie Bello, 60, of Decatur said he was delighted the tournament included seniors events.

Bello and his partner Raymond Steel took the senior menís 3.5 consolation doubles division.

ďWith consolation matches, theyíre great to have because you are constantly competing for something,Ē Bello said.

ďItís interesting to get to see all of the other people from other tennis regions.Ē

Bello said that the timing of the matches was almost impeccable.

ďThey did a great job of accommodating everyoneís work schedule,Ē Bello said. ďEveryone who helped put this tournament on scored a home run in my book.Ē
