Decatur Daily’s All-Area Boys Golf Team

Boys player of the year

Joe Higginbotham, Athens, Sr.: Averaged 74.7 as the No. 1 golfer for the Golden Eagles. Finished second in the Class 5A state championship tournament on the Grand National Course in Opelika with a 74-71 145 total. Medalist at the Azalea City Invitational in Mobile with a 72. Fired a 76 at Goose Pond Colony in Scottsboro to earn medalist honors at Class 5A Section 4 tournament for the second straight year. Named to The Daily All-Area team as a junior. Honor student at Athens High.

Rest of the team

Alex Goodwin, East Limestone, Jr.: Had 78 average as top golfer at East Limestone. He was Limestone County medalist.

Thomas Holt, Falkville, Sr.: 78 average. Had top-15 finish three times at Class 1A-2A state tournament. Medalist at Section 3 tournament. Class valedictorian.

Peyton Harris, Lawrence County, Sr.: Had team-leading 79 average at Deer Run Golf Course despite being born without a right foot and a right hand. Class valedictorian.

Bill Nabors, Decatur, So.: Had 77 average. Morgan County and Sectional medalist; Finished 19th in Class 5A state competition.

Madison Terry, Austin, Jr.: School’s top golfer with 78 for 18-hole average.

Craig Whitt, Athens, So.: Played No. 2 for the Golden Eagles with 76.9 average on the tough Canebrake course. Was medalist at Scottsboro Invitational at Goosepond with 73. Shot 77 at sectionals.

Hubbard: Ramsee Miller; West Limestone: Cody Smith; West Morgan: Justin Poole.
