DECATUR DAILY ALL-AREA TRACK AND FIELD TEAM

Girls athlete of the year

Amber Jones, Hazlewood, So.: Won four state titles this season, pacing the Lady Golden Bears to a Class 1A runner-up finish. Took individual crowns in the 400, 800, 1,600 and 3,200 meters at this year's state meet after sitting out last season while recovering from knee surgery.

Rest of the team

Jennifer Dunn, Austin, Jr.: Continued to strengthen her reputation as one of the state's top distance runners, finishing second at the Class 6A state championships in the 1,600 meters and 3,200 meters. Made all-area in 2006.

Jasmine Patton, Hazlewood, Jr.: Won the 100-meter hurdles and 300-meter hurdles at the Class 1A state meet and placed second 100 meters. Was The Daily's girls track and field athlete of the year in 2006.

Mary Atchley, Priceville, Fr.: Placed third in the javelin and fourth in the shot put at this year's Class 4A state meet, making her the Lady Bulldogs' top scorer.

Krystal Gibbs, Falkville, So.: Won a Class 2A state title in the 800 meters. Also placed third in the 400 meters and fourth in the 1,600 meters as Falkville's girls took second place in 2A. Was honorable mention all-area in 2006.

Paige McCarley, Falkville, So.: Class 2A state champion in the triple jump. Also finished second in the high jump and fourth in the long jump. Was honorable mention all-area in 2006.

Kristen Baker, West Morgan, So.: Placed second in the 100 meters and third in the 200 meters at the Class 2A state meet. Was honorable mention all-area in 2006.

Karen Reedus, Halzewood, So.: Notched two state runner-up finishes in the 100-meter hurdles and 300-meter hurdles at this year's Class 1A state meet. Was also third in the long jump. Was honorable mention all-area in 2006.

Ari Stephenson, Lawrence County, Fr.: Placed third in the 3,200 meters and fifth in the 1,600 meters at the Class 4A state meet. Was honorable mention all-area in 2006.

Catredia King, R. A. Hubbard, Jr.: Won a state championship in the high jump and placed second in the long jump at this year's Class 1A state meet. Was honorable mention all-area in 2006.

Boys athlete of the year

Shane Edge, Falkville, Sr.: The Daily's boys track and field athlete of the year as both a junior and a senior. Was the Blue Devils' top scorer as Falkville captured the Class 2A boys state championship. Anchored Falkville's winning 1,600-meter relay team. Set a state record in the 800 meters, finishing in 1 minute, 58.31 seconds. Won a state title in the 400 meters and placed second in the 200 meters.

Rest of the team

Dakota Matthews, East Lawrence, Sr.: Became East Lawrence's first state decathlon champion. Also finished runner-up in the 110-meter hurdles at the Class 4A state meet and placed fifth in the long jump. Made all-area in 2006.

Jace Wilemon, Falkville, So.: Took an individual Class 2A state title in the 300 meter hurdles and was third in the 800 meters at the state meet this season. Was also a part of Falkville's winning 1,600-meter relay team at the state meet. Made all-area in 2006.

Cody Sewell, Falkville, Sr.: Won individual Class 2A state titles in the 110-meter hurdles and long jump. Also placed second in the high jump and third in the triple jump. Was runner-up at the state decathlon meet. Made all-area in 2006.

Justin Blanchard, Falkville, Jr.: Ran the leadoff leg for Class 2A Falkville's state championship 1,600-meter relay team. Took an individual state title in the 1,600 meters and finished fourth in the 800 meters. Was honorable mention all-area in 2006.

D.J. Jones, Hazlewood, Jr.: Landed three individual Class 1A state titles this year. Placed first at the state meet in the 100, 200 and 400 meters. Tallied the most points of any Golden Bears athlete as Hazlewood finished third as a team.

Andy Davidson, Athens Bible, Jr.: Logged two second-place finishes at the Class 1A state meet, placing runner-up in the 1,600 and 200 meters. Was on the Trojans' winning 3,200-meter relay team. Was honorable mention all-area in 2006.

Paris Williams, Hazlewood, Sr.: Contributed to the Golden Bears' third-place finish as a team at the Class 1A state meet with an individual title in the 110-meter hurdles. Also took third place in the triple jump.

Akeem Koger, Hazlewood, Sr.: Won the 300-meter hurdles at the Class 1A state meet this year, and also took second in the 110-meter hurdles.

Devans Orr, R.A. Hubbard, Sr.: Had highest individual finishes for the Chiefs at the Class 1A state meet, coming in third in the discus and fourth in the shot put. Was honorable mention all-area in 2006.
