Decatur graduate new voice of UAB sports programs

TUSCALOOSA — When former Alabama baseball and women’s basketball announcer David Crane walked in the door of his father Dan’s Decatur home, his family had a little surprise for him Thursday.
A cake, pasted with UAB’s green and gold colors and the words “UAB Blazers” scratched into the icing.
Crane, a Decatur native and Decatur High graduate is the new voice of the UAB football and basketball teams.
He replaces Cory Provus, who is the pre-game host for the Chicago Cubs during WGN radio broadcasts.
“It is what I always wanted to do,” Crane said Thursday afternoon. “And these jobs are so rare, and they don’t come along pretty often. Working for a great school, a great department and it also keeps me close to friends in Tuscaloosa and close to family still in Decatur.”
He will be doing radio call-in shows, television shows and speeches at school events.
Crane worked with Alabama for 11 seasons. Along with the baseball and women’s basketball jobs, he was the host of a weekly television show “Crimson Tide This Week” and football’s postgame radio show.
