Decatur National 14s, Hartselle 13s advance to state

The Decatur National 14-year-olds and Hartselle 13-year-old all-stars claimed Dixie Boys Baseball district tournament championships Tuesday night at Cedar Ridge Middle School.

Decatur National beat the Hartselle 14-year-old all-stars 6-4, while the Hartselle 13-year-olds celebrated a 8-3 championship win over Hamilton.

With the victory, Decatur National advances to the Dixie Boys state tournament July 20 in Fayette. The Hartselle 13-year-old team is scheduled to begin state tournament play July 20 in Athens.

Decatur National 14-year-olds 6, Hartselle 4: Hartselle carried a 4-2 lead after five innings of play before Decatur National pushed four runs across the plate in the sixth to secure the state tournament berth.

Decaturís Josh Freeman walked in the sixth and scored on a double by Reid Cauthen, before Garret Teague launched a home run over the left field fence. Greg Walden then reached on an error and scored on a single by Blake Towe.

Walden finished with a double and a single, while Towe had two singles. Hunter Spivey and A.C. Watkins had a single each.

Cauthen picked up the pitching win for Decatur, working three innings, allowing two hits, striking out two and walking one.

Will Lang led the Hartselle 14-year-olds with a double. Seth Wiley, Chance Partlow, Jackson Reeves and Ryland Blankenship had a single each.

Hartselle 13-year-olds 8, Hamilton 3: Jacob Garrison carried the load for Hartselle on the mound to claim the win. He pitched five innings while giving up only two hits. He struck out seven Hamilton batters while walking two.

Colby Nelson led Hartselle in hitting with a double and two singles. Garrison had a double, while Gavin Marsh, Kameron Wallace and Landin Henderson finished with a single each.
