Decatur American drops Lawrence Co.

Thomas Russell knocked a triple in Decatur American's 7-2 victory over Lawrence County in the 14-year-old district tournament Friday. Connor Graves, Ethan Walker, Thomas Russell, Devin Wynn, Ty Keenum, Andrew Lilly and Spencer Beasley each had singles for Decatur. Lilly also allowed three hits in seven innings.

Hunter Smith had a double for Lawrence County and John Michael Hill had two singles.

Decatur must defeat Colbert County twice on Saturday to reach to the state tournament. The first game is set to start at 5:30 p.m. in Moulton at Alexander Park.

Cherokee County 2, Decatur 1: The Decatur 15- and-16-year-old team lost against Cherokee County in the state tournament in Guntersville. Caleb Brown, Matthew Poole and Austin Day each had doubles for Decatur. Scott Peyton, Seth Wallace and Hunter Rivers each had singles. Decatur will play Over the Mountain on Saturday at 1 p.m.
