Decatur third in state tourney

The Decatur 15- and 16-year-old baseball all-stars finished third after splitting two games in pool play in the state tournament in Guntersville on Sunday. Decatur dropped the first game before winning the second.

Boaz 6, Decatur 1: Scott Peyton singled to drive home Jake Morgan, who had singled, in the fourth inning for the lone Decatur run.

Decatur 7, Guntersville 2: Jacob Crowell struck out five in seven innings of work to get the win for Decatur. Crowell also added two singles at the plate.

Colton Cartee and Hunter Rivers each doubled, while Caleb Brown and Matthew Poole each singled for the winners.

Over the Mountain from Jefferson County won the state title. Boaz finished second.
