Athens, Decatur fall in warmup contests

The Golden Eagles did not give the right responses in their 14-7 jamboree loss against Grissom on Friday night, according to Athens coach Allen Creasy. But for Athens, at least it wasn't when it mattered.

"We answered a lot of questions, and a lot of our answers weren't good," Creasy said. "That's why we play a team like Grissom. Winning is not the goal of this game. The goal is to get better."

Grissom scored first on a 15-yard pass play.

Then Athens drove down the field on a 15-play drive and scored on a Jamaal Bess 3-yard rush.

Grissom scored again with eight minutes left in the second quarter. Both varsity teams were pulled after the first half ended.

Bob Jones 25, Decatur 14: Bob Jones first-team players scored 20 points on Decatur's first team and ollowing the game, coach Jere Adcock wasn't thrilled.

"Looks like Bob Jones is going to be a good team," Adcock said. "I wasn't happy with the way we played. It looks like we are going to have a lot of correcting."

Bob Jones scored first to put the score at 7-0 in the first quarter. Then Chris Coffey scored on a rushing play to knot the score at 7-7.

Bob Jones scored again, then Brooks Johnson hauled in a touchdown pass from quarterback Ben Neill to tie the score at 14-14 right before half.

Bob Jones scored on its first series of the second half, the final series in which both teams' first teams were going against one another.

Richland, Tenn., 15, Ardmore 14: Landon Curtis scored two touchdowns for Ardmore in the a fall jamboree for both schools in a game played in Richland, Tenn., on Friday night.

Curtis hauled in a 13-yard pass from Elijah Barnes for his first score and then added a 3-yard run to paydirt for his second of the game.

Curtis had 115 yards on 24 carries.

Ardmore opens its season on the road at Elkmont on Friday.

Addison 13, Parrish 12: Addison and Parrish traded kick-return touchdowns, but the game ultimately came down to an extra point.

Steve Tucker started the scoring for Parrish with a 103-yard interception return off Addison quarterback Jordan Rivers with 2:22 left in the first quarter to put the score to 6-0.

Bulldogs running back Andrew Privett had a 4-yard touchdown rush to tie the game at
6 after the missed extra point. Then Tucker had a 90-yard kick return for a touchdown, but Parrish failed the 2-point conversion to put the score at 12-6.

Privett came back with an 88-yard kick return and Jason Fowler kicked the eventual game-winning extra point to put the score at its 13-12 final.

Mount Hope 14, Parkway Christian 7: In a game that lasted two quarters because of lightning, Mount Hope got two rushing touchdowns and its defense did the rest to stop Parkway Christian of Center Point.

Senior tailback Chase Hopkins started the scoring with a 16-yard run in the first quarter to put Mount Hope up 6-0 before the missed extra point.

Parkway Christian then parlayed a Mount Hope fumble into a 75-yard recovery for a touchdown. With the extra point, Parkway Christian went up 7-6.

With 9:55 left in the second quarter, Justin Gann scored on a 5-yard rush for the Yellow Jackets. After the 2-point conversion, Mount Hope went up for good.

Parkway Christian went three-and-out on two series and finished with only five yards on four rushes.
